Site Updates

I've tweaked the premise and episodes sections a bit. I've also added a new section, humor. Lastly, if you really want to watch this show and would like to promote it to people you know (and don't know), then promise to get lost! Let's show ABC there's demand for this show, even online.

Cult TV - Get Lost
Lost isn't the only castaway drama pilot ordered for the new season. Cult TV reports that NBC also ordered a castaway drama from Survivor executive producer Mark Burnett. Over at NBC, Mark Burnett, the executive producer of reality shows such as The Apprentice and Survivor has a script commitment for his own castaway drama Eden. Pitched as a limited 13 episode series that could evolve into a ongoing show, Eden centres on a group of youths from diverse backgrounds, brought together on a summer study cruise, who find themselves marooned after being shipwrecked during a storm. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter has a handy table of pilots ordered for the upcoming fall season.

Zap2it - ABC Loves Abrams' Labor 'Lost'
This is old news, but we're trying to uncover as much information about this show as possible. Zap2it reports (way back in January 22) that ABC ordered a pilot plus six scripts from JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof, based on a detailed outline the duo wrote. "We're excited about the kind of drama that J.J. and Damon will be able to do in this world," Touchstone TV President Stephen McPherson tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It's going to have Michael Crichton-esque elements of a thriller with strong characters. One of the biggest priorities in developing the piece is to have it done in a way that it can sustain over the long term as a regular series."

Honolulu Star-Bulletin - Lost begins filming
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin has a little blurb on filming of the Lost Pilot, with some very interesting details: ABC's two-hour pilot of the castaway drama "Lost" filmed its first two days this week in a rain and bamboo forest along Old Pali Road where three survivors of a plane crash -- actors Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan -- on an unnamed and deserted Pacific island find the dead pilot hanging in a tree, a dog (which suddenly vanishes) and a child's shoe. Most mysterious in this script by J.J. Abrams ("Alias") is today and tomorrow's Waikane Valley filming, when six of the survivors, while hiking, are attacked by a charging polar bear. Very strange indeed. Thanks to woodnymph for the alert.

Honolulu Star-Bulletin Features - Reel News
This is rather old, but in the interest of bringing everything Lost to this site, here's a little blurb from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin: ABC begins filming its pilot "Lost" March 22. In the pilot, the production will only use the crashed plane's fuselage as a set and rain forest locales. Locations being considered for the "crashed" aircraft are Dillingham Air Field area and Kualoa Ranch. If "Lost" goes to series, it'll be filmed entirely in Hawaii. The show, which stars Dominic Monaghan (Merry of "The Lord of the Rings"), Ian Somerhalder, Jorge Garcia and Evangeline Lilly, deals with the aftermath of a plane wreck on a deserted island. Maggie Grace ("Oliver Beene") plays one of the castaways, an upper-crust beauty. She also played Tom Selleck's daughter in last year's "12 Mile Road."

Site Updates
I've updated the cast section with more info as well as Josh Holloway's picture. (Silly me thought it was John Holloway. That has been corrected.) Also, if you notice to your left, I've included a calendar. If (and when!) the show is picked up, it will be updated with dates for upcoming episodes.

USA Today - New season offers familiar names, themes
There's another article on USA Today about networks finding series which are "throwbacks" to seasons and series past. There's a little bit on ABC here: ABC is going in the opposite direction, aiming to tap into the appeal of lighter romantic dramas such as the mid-'80s' Moonlighting. Several series targeted to women are in the pipeline, vying for three slots ABC expects to fill this fall. I'm not sure if those three slots are for hour-long dramatic series in general, or if ABC is looking for three female-skewing series.

USA Today - Pilots help networks navigate search for time slots
USA Today has an article on some of the pilots and trends for the upcoming Fall season. We learn there are at least four pilots set in Hawaii, for example. (I'm guessing that although Lost is being filmed there, it's not set in Hawaii.) Lost isn't even mentioned at all, but at least we get some idea of their "competition" for a slot on ABC's primetime schedule next fall, though most are comedies. ABC seems particularly obsessed with scribes: Jessica Simpson plays a newsmagazine reporter in one sitcom; Jennifer Love Hewitt is a sports reporter in another; and a third comedy revolves around Joel Stein's tenure at Time. Seinfeld's Jason Alexander resurfaces in a CBS pilot as Washington Post sports reporter Tony Kornheiser.... In the vein of the Fox drama 24, in which an entire season takes place on a single day, comes a comedy pilot starring John Stamos (Full House), whose date lasts an entire season; and Countdown, a drama in which self-contained episodes about a SWAT team chronicle the final 43 minutes of crises in real time. Both are for ABC. Finally, there's also a series about wedding planners being, er, planned for ABC, The DeMarco Affairs.

New Site Goodies!
Well, as good as they can be, anyway. Armed with all those previous news updates, I've updated the characters and pictures sections. Also, I've got a temporary message board set up. I hope to see you there!

MTV.com - Dominic Monaghan heading to the small screen
MTV.com has a little blurb on Dominic Monaghan's upcoming projects, and of course 'Lost' is one of those mentioned. There are some choice quotes from Monaghan here: "It's the most expensive pilot ever filmed. I think it's like a $10 million pilot," Monaghan boasted. "It's about survivors of a plane crash who manage to get themselves on a deserted island with a lot of freaky stuff going on, animals they've never seen before. It's how they survive in that situation."

Honolulu Star-Bulletin - New TV show 'Lost' is found filming on Oahu
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin has some news on filming of the series 'Lost.' Apparently, it begins filming on Monday, March 22 (that's tomorrow) and ends April 30. We also find out that ABC announces its fall schedule on May 12, and we'll find out then if 'Lost' gets picked up, or if we have to bombard ABC with mail and email to make sure it gets released. Hee hee. We even get some information about the plot. "Lost" is about the first few days spent by survivors of a plane crash on a deserted island, where they must learn to live together despite their different backgrounds. In the pilot, an unknown force makes one of the survivors disappear. The person's remains are found later. There are also pictures of the props and wreckage.

Variety.com - Stars moonlighting (We get character names!)
Okay, so this article was already referenced in the previous update, but Variety.com (by subscription) includes some character names in their casting update. Among the thesps to be found in "Lost," Matthew Fox ("Party of Five") has been cast as Jack; Harold Perrineau ("Oz") will play Michael; Malcolm David Kelley ("Antwone Fisher") is on board as Walt; Naveen Andrews ("Rollerball") has been added as Sayid; and Josh Holloway ("CSI") will play Sawyer.

Various 'Lost' Casting News
We're trying to catch up with old news, so here's a catch-all "update" to read up on casting news for 'Lost.' The first members of the cast to be announced were Dominic Monaghan, Ian Somerhalder, Jorge Garcia, and Evangeline Lilly, and you can read reports on Reuters, MSNBC, Hollywood Reporter, and Hollywood.com. Maggie Grace was announced next, and reports can be found in Zap2It, Reuters, and Variety (by subscription). Most recent additions to the cast are Matthew Fox, Harold Perrineau, Malcolm David Kelley, Naveen Andrews, and Josh Holloway, as reported in Varety. There is an additional Matthew Fox mention in Zap2It. Whew!
