Los Angeles Times / Calendar Live - Pain by numbers
Calendar Live (by subscription only) has an article on the much-publicized troubles at ABC and the challenges the network's new chief programmer Steve McPherson faces. (He's the guy who will ultimately make a decision on whether or not the show gets picked up.) Lost gets a favorable mention as one of his options. The drama alternatives include "Lost," a tropical drama from writer-producer J.J. Abrams ("Alias"), and "Desperate Housewives," a quirky drama set on a suburban cul-de-sac. Plus, Steven Bochco of "NYPD Blue" is working on "Blind Justice," a cop procedural featuring a blind detective, and David E. Kelley, writer-producer of "The Practice," has "The De Marco Affairs," about the lives and loves of three sisters. ABC has already committed a one-hour slot for a spinoff of "The Practice" starring James Spader. "They have pretty good options," said Bill Carroll, who analyzes network and syndicated programming on behalf of local stations for Katz Media in New York. "Now, of course, everything looks good on paper, [but] the advantage is that a number of these [pilots] are developed by Touchstone," which means that McPherson, as the outgoing Touchstone boss, should already have a good sense of the shows' strengths and weaknesses. Fans Meet Dominic Monaghan
Some people are so lucky. Last Thursday, April 22, three fans met Dominic Monaghan, and had their pictures taken with him. Chanda, Feliz, and Victoria sent those pictures to us, and can be found at the, um, pictures section. It's also a first look at Dominic's Lost look. (5:20 AM)

A Message From "Dead Body"
"Dead Body" - the extra mentioned by Mithril in her reports - has this statement correcting what I said below. Whoops; I guess I'm not the best writer for these things. LOL.
I just want it to be clearly understood by EVERYONE that I was on the set, just leaving lunch, when I saw my friend, Mithril, walk by and stopped for a moment to say "hello - what are you doing here?" It seems she was passing by and stopped to see what was going on.
Part of being professional is not inviting friends to the set. This is why it is so important it not look like she was there "with me", visiting the set. She wasn't.
She asked if I could talk to Dom for her and I told her "if I got a chance", warning her that when we are working on a show, there is often no chance. Another part of being professional is NOT talking to the stars.
Mithril was not there as my "guest" in any sense. In fact, I was surprised to see her there.
So please, let it be known I did NOT have a guest on the set! I know better. Mithril tells me she wrote that she was driving to Kaena Point, which is past where the set is, and stumbled on us shooting. Cool. I can't stress enough how embarrasing this is for me to see it in print (where any of the cast and crew can stumble on it) that I had someone on the set with me.
One thing I do want to stress is how nice everyone on the set was. Cast and crew were fun to be with. I had a really fun day.
And playing a "dead body" was a hoot!!! <G> (7:04 AM)

Evangeline Lilly on Kingdom Hospital
Evangeline Lilly will appear on Thursday night's episode of ABC's Kingdom Hospital. The episode is entitled "Heartless." She will portray Benton's Girlfriend. Does anyone have a screencap device? If someone make a very god screencap of Evangeline Lilly, email me so I can put the picture up. (6:44 PM)
Honolulu Star-Bulletin - Another Lost Blurb
Honolulu Star-Bulletin's Tim Ryan has a new column up, and this time there's a very brief blurb about Lost: ABC's castaway pilot episode of "Lost," which wraps shooting Saturday, has been a boom for local actors. Thirty-four have been hired to portray the crashed airplane's passengers, 10 hired as stand-ins, plus a large number of extras. (10:57 AM)
Thanks to the news story I posted below, I've updated the cast section with information on Terry O'Quinn. (9:21 AM)
The Honolulu Advertiser - O'ahu's going Hollywood: four TV projects shot here
The Honolulu Advertiser has a new article on the four series currently filming in Hawaii, and of course Lost gets a mention. I've snipped out everything else non- Lost, but you can check out the entire article here.
The impressive mock wreckage of a wide-bodied jet scattered across a beach at Mokule'ia is just one of many unmistakable signs that the television industry has descended on O'ahu. In fact, no fewer than four television networks are backing projects in the Islands.
The carcass of an L-1011 jetliner is a humongous prop for ABC's two-hour pilot, "Lost," which has been filming throughout the island and is slated to wrap Saturday.
Meanwhile, the cast and crew of ABC's "Lost" are scheduled to wrap up the two-hour pilot this weekend, executive producer Bryan Burk said, while on location in Kualoa.
Filming of the show began March 11 in Los Angeles and March 22 on O'ahu, with 12-hour work days, six days a week. After filming of the pilot is completed, editing will be done in Los Angeles, Burk said.
"Lost" follows survivors of a plane crash on a deserted island.
"It has elements of all your favorite genres: mystery, action, adventure, romance, horror," said Burk, also an associate producer on ABC's "Alias." "It has a little bit of everything."
The concept was developed by Lloyd Braun, chairman of ABC, and J.J. Abrams, creator of "Alias," said Damon Lindelof, also an executive producer on "Lost."
Creators came up with the idea that the island itself had to serve as a character, adding elements of mystery and suspense to the plot, said Lindelof, who has also been involved with "Crossing Jordan" and "Nash Bridges."
"Lost" has a main cast of 15 actors, including former "Party of 5" star Matthew Fox, who was on site last week at Kualoa, where a large white tent, catering truck and several trailers served as a temporary headquarters.
The cast joins at least 230 local crew members — from caterers on set to airline workers who flew cast members to Honolulu, Burk said — in addition to another 50 crew members in Los Angeles.
" 'Lost' is using a lot of local hires ... for extras and background," said Brenda Ching, the Hawai'i district executive of the Screen Actors Guild. "So we're real pleased with that."
And producers could not be happier with all the help they've received. "Everyone here has been amazing," Burk said.
In addition to Mokule'ia, locales have included Nu'uanu, He'eia Kea and Kualoa, where the last scene of the show was being shot last week.
"We're shooting everywhere, and what I've discovered is this island is gorgeous," Burk said. "You can point the camera anywhere and it's a beautiful shot."
Burk and Lindelof would not discuss the show's budget, but jokingly said it was "more than $30" and "less than the national deficit."
The two producers have high hopes the show will get the green light by the network.
"The goal of any television show is to make a little movie every week, so we're keeping true to that," Lindelof said.
Via the sidebar, we also find a new name in the list of actors in the series: Terry O'Quinn. There's also a new picture, which of course I've uploaded to the pictures section. (8:33 AM)
Cast Interviews Put On Hold
Mithril has an update on her planned cast interviews, and has this to say (as posted on the message board): Well, a bit of bad news. Apparently the cast is not allowed to give interviews for pilots. They can talk to the public once the show is picked up, in which case I have a good shot at being one of the interviewers. Maybe we could do it by phone if they're not here. I now know who the contact people are. So, for atleast a couple more weeks, we've hit a brick wall. I am so bummed. In a way I can see why it makes sense. Why do a big build up with the public before the fact? So... let's get the word out to everyone about this show so ABC picks it up, alright? (6:56 AM)

Watch with Kristin - Casting Rumor
E! Online has the latest chat transcript of Watch with Kristin, and she has a teeny-tiny casting rumor. From aliciajo: "Is it true that the producers of Alias are starting to rethink having Lauren on the show next year?" Last I heard, she was going to come back for at least two or three episodes. I also hear she's been in talks with JJ to star in his new deserted-island show, Lost (which sounds amazing, FYI). Lauren on Alias is played by Melissa George. Should be interesting... she'd be the requisite JJ Abrams crossover. (10:11 AM)
I've fixed up a bunch of stuff in the links section, and added a slew of new pledges, pushing those up to 59. (6:32 AM)
Mithril is trying to organize interviews with the Lost cast, and we'd like you to help! Just log on to the forums and post your question for Mithril. Also, there's a tiny little production update as well: This past week, shooting has been at the Kualoa Ranch property. This is where Jurassic Park 1 was filmed, with beautiful green mountains rising straight up. The valley goes waaaaay back into the mountains, so there is plenty of room for them to have adventures. 50 First Dates was also shot there, most notable the scene where Adam Sandler is coaxing the penguin into the road. This is private property so only cast and crew are allowed there. I have heard that shooting is being done in sequence, which is highly unusual for this type of film. If I knew more about the plot I could figure out where they will be next. My 'dead body' friend saw Dom the day she worked, and he nodded to her, but alas, they didn't speak. (1:04 AM)

But I'm sure you've noticed. First things first: We've moved! Yes, no longer is this site located at a spyware-riddled host. The site has now moved to its own domain at http://www.lost-tv.com/! If you notice, though, there are unsightly banner ads, but that's the price I have to pay for getting a free domain host. (Er, the domain's not free, FYI.)
The other major site change: I've launched the new message board! Feel free to poke around and play with it, and I hope to see you there! I post as Master Xander. :) (5:18 AM)

Honolulu Star-Bulletin - 'Lost' moves to Kualoa Ranch tomorrow
The fantastic Tim Ryan has yet another column up at Honolulu Star-Bulletin, and there's another Lost mention. Apparently, space is scarce at Hawaii, and the Costco warehouse is a prime commodity. Sources say "Lost" and "Hawaii" producers met this week with Hawaii Film Office officials at the Costco warehouse to consider sharing the immense space if their respective series are green lit next month. So it looks like filming will still be in Hawaii once the show is picked up. Also, the Lost crew moves from Mokuleia to Kualoa Ranch for three days: "Lost," which wraps April 24, moves tomorrow from its Mokuleia beach location for three days of filming at Kualoa Ranch where actors will trek through the jungle and along mountain ridges. (11:17 AM)
Mithril was lucky enough to be on the set of Lost (with her friend, who's an extra who'll play a dead body), and shared with us this tidbit, as posted on the message board. If you wish to use this little tidbit, please use this site as your source (and of course provide a link back). As movie-making watching is a usual Hawaiian passtime, I went to watch the shooting of 'Lost' this morning. I'm a major admirer of Dom and Billy, and was thrilled when I saw Dom in the mess tent during lunch. I'm not an intrusive person so I didn't try to meet him. I can say that he looks quite handsome in person, his hair is currently cut conservatively, and he's sporting a full beard. I also spoke briefly to, or made eye contact with, other cast members but didn't know who they were at the time. A visit to this site has cleared that up. Naveen Andrews especially impressed me with his warm smile. The airplane wreck is phenominal (sic)! A very shocking piece of scenery. My friend, who does extra work on shoots, was playing a dead body today. She promised that if she gets a chance to talk with Dom, she will ask him if he plans to play music while he's here and to let us know where. I am very interested in his music abilities and want to support any efforts he makes in that direction. Also, cameras aren't allowed on-set, so I'm guessing it may be a while until we get new pictures of the cast in action (unless someone has press credentials and manages to get permission). (12:59 AM)

Saturday, April 10, 2004
Wow, quite a lot of site updates today. I added more pledges, bringing the total to roughly 20 who have promised to watch and promote. I've fixed up the characters section, and we now know that Ian Somerhalder plays Boone, and Maggie Grace plays his sister. I've added a bunch of new links, including several other pages and sites devoted to Lost. Finally, I've added a couple of new affiliates: starDom: A Dominic Monaghan Fansite and DanielDaeKim.org. Check it all out! (6:20 AM)
Calgary Sun - A First Look at Fall
Calgary Sun has an article on the new upcoming series for the Fall season, and there's a very brief, if passing, mention of Lost: Meanwhile, Alias creator J.J. Abrams is producing The Catch, about a pair of bounty hunters, and Aaron Spelling has his own such project, currently untitled, about a father-and-son bounty hunting duo. Abrams is also producing Lost, about a group of survivors marooned on a remote island. IMHO, they should probably start publicizing the more quirky aspects of the show, if only to distinguish itself from other "survivors marooned on a remote island" shows. (12:08 AM)

Is there anyone out there who's willing to host this lovely little site on their servers? There's some freaky spyware installation thingie that pops up, and it's not something I can control. If you're willing to host my site, please email me. (1:11 PM)
After adding more pledges, I've also added a new affiliate: Pointless Retrospect. Also, if you really want to send a message to ABC that you want the show to get picked up... then, well, send a message! You could email them at netaudr@abc.com or snail mail them at: ABC, Inc. 500 S. Buena Vista Street Burbank, CA 91521-4551 (9:44 AM)

Hawaii Film Office - Productions Information
The Hawaii Film Office has a little bit of information on Lost, primarily contact information for the production office. ABC will be shooting their castaway television pilot on Oahu begining March 22. Production Office: 808-942-5351 (tel) and 808-945-0666 (fax). Please don't call or fax just to bug them, though. (11:21 PM)
Zap2it - Pilot Season: Say 'Aloha' to Next Season's Hits -- and Misses
Rick Porter of Zap2it has an article on the upcoming pilots, and of course there's some promising news on Lost: Once pilots do get picked up -- the networks ordered 35 new series for last fall, and several more for midseason -- networks have to worry about whether they'll be able to cut through the clutter. ABC Entertainment president Susan Lyne notes that only seven of the 17 dramas that debuted last fall are still on the air, and only three are scoring better than a 3.0 rating in the crucial adults 18-49 demographic. "We're increasingly facing a world where there are so many options for people out there that launching a new show that's not already pre-sold in some way, already branded, is increasingly difficult," Lyne says. With that in mind, Lyne says ABC's mission this development season was to find shows with "clean enough concepts or big enough ideas" to break through to wide audiences. She cites "Alias" creator J.J. Abrams' "Lost," about a group of plane-crash survivors stuck on a remote island, and "Countdown," a drama about the first minutes of a SWAT team's response to a crisis, as potential breakouts. "Not every show needs to be a blockbuster, but we do need a hit," she says. "That's very clear." (4:54 AM)
I've added some pledges. a little information on Daniel Dae Kim in the cast section, and some awesome new behind-the-scenes pictures. Check them out! (4:52 AM)
Honolulu Star-Bulletin - Pilot of new drama filming at Mokuleia
Honolulu Star-Bulletin has a new article on Lost courtesy of Tim Ryan. Awesome article; of course I'm a bit biased, but you'll find out why towards the end. Hee hee. It's a great article with lots of new information.
"Lost" has found a new home on a Mokuleia beach. Filming of the two-hour ABC TV castaway drama pilot episode moved to the beach last Saturday and will continue over the next three weeks. A quarter-mile of Farrington Highway has been covered with some 10 inches of sand to make it look like a single wide beach where an L-1011 (a primary set in the show) had "crashed." The pilot's most spectacular scenes are scheduled for today when a part of the beached aircraft is blown up, simulating the moment after the crash. A crane will lift a 70-foot-long wing vertically, then drop it during the explosion.
From what I saw, the plane's fuselage has been recarpeted and burned, and the seats repainted to match what was shot in Los Angeles. A path cleared across the sand to simulate the crash path has been sprinkled with charcoal dust to make it look charred.
"Lost" filming originally started in Heeia, going on for six days a week, shooting about three script pages a day, which is similar to a feature film. The story follows a group of people stuck on an unnamed Pacific island after surviving a plane crash, and they're forced to build a new society in a sort of adult version of "Lord of the Flies." Producer JJ Abrams says the survivors face "a lot of freaky stuff going on, animals they've never seen before ... "
Some scenes have a "monster" pulling a man out of the cockpit. A polar bear, of all things, is one of the animals in the drama, and there are three incarnations of the beast: a large, complete body used in the chase scene filmed in Nuuanu; another that's shot but still breathing; and the polar bear's feet.
A crash survivor gets sucked into the airplane's engine. The story has an unresolved ending, with much left to learn about the characters -- perfect for a lead-in to a regular series.
Daniel Dae Kim ("Angel") is the latest to join the ensemble cast.
Local cast and crew seem happy with the mainland staff, describing them as "incredible," "the nicest bunch of people," "no egos" and "a creative experience," and producer Abrams himself as "delightful and very human." Producers held a party for cast and crew at the Ilikai Hotel after the first week of filming.
ABC announces its fall network schedule on May 12. There's already an unofficial "Lost" Web site at http://lost.b0x.com, offering a bumper sticker that reads "I promise to get 'Lost' on ABC this fall."
And yes, he was talking about this website, right here! (1:41 AM)
