E! Online - Watch With Kristin: Lost Loses a Castmember... No More Crying Wolf
...Someone is going to die on Lost. Really. Really, really. No, I'm telling you, they're serious this time. Don't believe me? Then maybe you'll listen to the big boss himself, who dished on his hit shows, Lost and Alias, at the Wisteria block party.
"There will definitely be death before the end of the year, and it won't be a dream," JJ Abrams says of Lost. "And it's not going to be a new character that comes on and all of a sudden dies in that episode. We're aware it's not realistic to have all 14 make it, and this is a very hard thing to do for us, because when you know you're going to do a story where someone's gonna have to bite it, you don't want to like any of the actors--because you don't want to have to say goodbye to any of them. And this cast, they're just like family. They're amazing. They're all wonderful."
Which is why what I heard might just kill me. I'm told one character will die at the hands of another. We already know both of them.... Read the full story here.

Honolulu Star-Bulletin - 'Lost' opportunity
The hit television series "Lost," which is spending about $45 million in Hawaii in its first season on ABC, likely will relocate unless state and studio executives can find ways to offset the high cost of filming here.
"Nobody wants to move, but this is a business and we must consider options to cut expenses," said producer Jean Higgins.
The sentiment is shared by other ABC/Touchstone executives who agreed that the series is losing about $500,000 an episode, or $11 million for the first season's 22 episodes. Season one filming ends in April.
"Lost," with its ensemble cast, costly sound stage, office and storage space and crew expenses, arguably is the most expensive series on television, costing $2.5 million to $2.8 million an episode, several sources said. The series has cost at least $60 million to date, with 75 percent of its budget spent in Hawaii. About half of that spending is local crew salaries.
Hawaii production costs can be as much as 35 percent higher than in Los Angeles, but the higher costs of "Lost" are in the 25 percent to 30 percent range, several sources said.
State officials are taking steps to try to keep the highly watched weekly drama.
"We're actively working through the process and have had many discussions with ABC about these issues and possible solutions," said Ted Liu, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. "We do not yet have (an assistance) package ready."
One of the major issues for producers is the higher cost to film in Hawaii.
"This is all tied into (ABC/Touchstone's) perception of the cost differential between filming in Hawaii and Los Angeles," said Liu. He said the differential is less than 35 percent.... Read the full story here.

Zap2It - Opinions Differ on 'Lost,' 'Housewives' Overruns
As TiVo and even VCR users know, the phrase "hour-long drama" doesn't mean what it used to in the television universe. All season long, fans of several hit ABC dramas -- "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" in particular -- have complained that because their favorite shows have been known to end at a minute or two past the hour, they've missed crucial information, or at least crucial closing credit sequences. At ABC's Television Critics Association press tour sessions over the weekend, it became clear that there are myriad reasons behind those minor overages which cause such frustration for so many.
"You know, sometimes it's based on creative and sometimes it's based on strategic," says ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson. "Sometimes the shows just run longer and it's hard to edit them down and we give the producers a minute or two. Sometimes it's to bridge... the commercial gap there and be a little more strategic with our schedule. [W]e don't do it on every show, there are opportunities where we think it makes sense."
For the most part, where it has made sense is when successful shows run into shows that need a little extra help. For example, "Desperate Housewives" has often run into the first couple minutes of the "Boston Legal" time period, hooking viewers into the David E. Kelley legal drama after programming on other networks has already begun. Expanding a hit show can also allow networks to sell slightly more ad space during a highly rated show, while slightly underselling ads in a show that lacks the same punch.
While the networks might see slightly inflated ratings or revenue, TiVo viewers are stuck with "conflict" warnings that prevent them from recording other shows after an extra-long drama. Viewers with other kinds of reports often find their episodes cut off at the end, missing any last second cliffhangers from a serialized drama.... Read the full story here.

Zap2It - ABC Opens 'Eyes' in April
ABC will try to extend the success of its Wednesday drama lineup by another hour in the spring with a twist on the private-eye show.
"Eyes," a show about the problem-solvers at a high-tech investigative firm, will premiere at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, April 13, joining "Lost" and "Alias" in ABC's rejuvenated schedule. Current timeslot occupant "Wife Swap" will have finished its season by then.
The show centers on Harlan Judd (Tim Daly, "Wings") and his employees at Judd Risk Management, a company that discreetly handles cases for powerful clients who don't want law enforcement involved in their business. Given the nature of their business, they're also prone to spying on one another.
Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon ("NYPD Blue"), Laura Leighton ("Melrose Place"), Rick Worthy ("Push, Nevada"), Natalie Zea ("The Shield"), Eric Mabius ("The L Word") and A.J. Langer ("My So-Called Life") round out the cast. John McNamara ("Fastlane") created the series.
"Eyes" will have the benefit of strong lead-ins in "Lost," which averages close to 17 million viewers a week, and "Alias," which is drawing 14.7 million people. However, it will also face some stiff competition in NBC's venerable "Law & Order" and CBS's "CSI: NY," both of which rank in the top 25 in total viewers this season. Read the full story here.

Zap2It - Unlocking the Philosophy of 'Lost'
On ABC's Wednesday castaway drama "Lost," con man Sawyer (Josh Holloway) sits on the beach reading Richard Adams' "Watership Down."
On its surface, the novel is about several rabbits that escape the destruction of their warren and traverse the English countryside to seek a new home. But the tale quickly becomes one of heroism, survival and friendship, and ultimately, the challenge of building a free society versus yielding to a totalitarian one. It's so much more than just bunnies on the run.
When ABC first announced "Lost," it sounded like a cross between "Survivor" and "Gilligan's Island," with plane-crash survivors on their way from Australia to Los Angeles stranded on a deserted tropical island. But before the pilot was over, the sudden appearance of a polar bear let you know, as co-creator (with Damon Lindelof) J.J. Abrams put it, "this place isn't normal."
Week by week, as the characters' histories are revealed in flashbacks, and as the island's deep strangeness makes itself gradually apparent, the show becomes less about being stranded on an island and more about what you learn once you get there.... Read the full story here.

Reuters - I Saw It on TV: Old, New Mix at L.A. Fest
Newcomers "Desperate Housewives," "Jack & Bobby," "Veronica Mars," "Deadwood" and "The L Word" will join such stalwarts as "Law & Order" and "NYPD Blue" in the spotlight at the 22nd annual William S. Paley Television Festival (March 2-16).
The Museum of Television & Radio's tribute to the small-screen's finest, held at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles, will kick off with a panel on "NYPD Blue," which comes the night after the veteran cop show created by Steven Bochco and David Milch ends its 12-season run on ABC....
...The second week of the festival picks up March 8 with a panel devoted to ABC's red-hot freshman series "Desperate Housewives." The WB Network's critically embraced drama "Jack & Bobby" will be feted March 9, followed by Showtime's "The L Word" (March 10), ABC's "Lost" (March 12), UPN's "Veronica Mars" (March 14), ABC's "Boston Legal" (March 15) and HBO's "Deadwood" (March 16).... The Wichita Eagle - Is anyone else totally 'Lost'?
Polar bears. Tiny toy airplanes. Disappearing pregnant women. "Beyond the Sea" sung in French.
What do these things have in common?
   Heck if I know.
And that's my point today, friends and fellow fans of the hit ABC series "Lost."
The show is just one of many keep-'em-guessing programs populating the airwaves these days. (Think "Desperate Housewives," "Alias" and "Carnivale.")
They're intended to hook audiences with their mysterious plots and unanswered questions.
But at least in the case of "Lost," I've become plagued by only one question.
How long do the creators of this show expect me to willingly stay lost before I decide to just get lost?
So far, the answer appears to be 14 episodes and counting.... Read the full story here.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Celebrity Q&A
There's something familiar about the actor who plays an ex-Iraqi army officer on ABC's Lost. Where have I seen him before?
Biracial actor Naveen Andrews has appeared in some 20 movies and television shows, but his most widely seen role was in the 1996 Oscar winner The English Patient, in which he played the turbaned WWII bomb-disposal expert who romances French star Juliette Binoche. Born in London, the son of an English businessman and an Indian psychologist, Andrews originally planned to become a musician -- he is a skilled guitarist -- but switched to acting after attending drama school with Ewan McGregor.... The Globe and Mail - J. J. Abrams
Before he built a TV series around a pensive co-ed named Felicity Porter, J. J. Abrams spent several years writing populist screenplays for the big screen, among them Armageddon. Felicity (1998-2002), a show that clicked at the cult level, would move Abrams further into TV work. Today, the ABC network flexes a beefy Wednesday-night bicep on the strength of two Abrams hits: Alias, starring Jennifer Garner, and Lost, about a group of plane-crash survivors marooned on a mysterious island. The latter has scored viewership highs of more than 21 million by revealing plot points in doses of sustained suspense, one small clue after the next. Abrams is now working on his feature-film directorial debut, the third Mission: Impossible instalment, due in 2006.... Read the full story here.

Zap2It - 'Lost' Helps Viewers Find Perrineau
Every week, the cast of ABC's "Lost" gathers for a viewing party, generally hosted by the performer whose backstory makes up the night's episode. This Wednesday (Jan. 19), the episode focuses on Harold Perrineau Jr.'s Michael, but the actor is expecting to be Stateside doing promotion for the show. It's fitting that Perrineau, a familiar face, but hardly a household name, should miss his own party.
"I'm one of those guys that whenever I'm doing a project, people will notice me then," laughs the unassuming actor. "People will walk up to me and go 'Oh my God, you're the guy from 'O,z'' or 'Oh my God, 'The Matrix'' or something like that, so now it's just 'Oh, 'Lost.'' It stays the same, which is fortunate for me, because I guess I'm working."
Since obfuscating his age to play a 16-year-old in 1995's "Smoke," the 36-year-old Perrineau has built up a resume characterized by its unpredictability. He's alternated between gritty and independent projects like HBO's prison drama "Oz" and blockbusters like the "Matrix" trilogy. He's gone macho in films like the David Mamet survival drama "The Edge" and he's wore a dress in both "Romeo and Juliet" and "Woman on Top."
"On one hand, it's really the thing I set out to do," Perrineau says of his eclectic choices. "I've always been interested in being an actor. That's the thing that I really love to do. On the other hand, it makes it hard to identify me, so it means I have to keep proving myself. That's the part that becomes a little difficult. Clearly I can do many things, but because I do so many things, I always have to prove I can do the next thing as well."
A theater-trained actor, Perrineau admits that he's occasionally been frustrated to play a character without a background. Usually he prepares for parts by working up a full biography on his character, but "Lost" has forced him to fly without a net.... Read the full story here.

Reuters - 'Lost,' 'Alias' Push ABC to Big Wednesday Win
The dramatic combo of "Lost" and "Alias" packed a punch again on Wednesday, giving ABC the nightly win in primetime by a wide margin.
At 10 p.m., it was another close contest between NBC's "Law & Order" and CBS' "CSI: NY." The two dramas were in a dead heat in the adults 18-49 demographic, while "Law & Order" maintained the edge in total viewers.
"Lost" opened the night for ABC with 22.7 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/21 share in the key demo, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. "Alias" followed at 9 p.m. with 14.5 million viewers and 6.1/15 in 18-49.... Read the full story here.

"The SI Swimsuit Model Search" was third for NBC, beating "That '70s Show," 4.0/6, and "Quintuplets," 3.3/5, on FOX. UPN's "Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott" was fifth at 2.2/3. The WB trailed with a rerun of "Smallville."

Backstage.com - Safe Landing
Jorge Garcia is one of a kind. With his generously sized frame, massive shag of hair--director Tenney Fairchild affectionately refers to it as "souffle-head"--and laid-back California-dude demeanor, the actor has a distinctive presence that casting directors and couch potatoes alike can't help but take notice of. "There's no one quite like him," says Lost casting director April Webster. "He's a one-er, as they say."
Garcia's unique persona helped him land a role on Lost, ABC's runaway hit about a diverse group of plane crash survivors marooned on a mysterious island. As easygoing Hugo "Hurley" Reyes, Garcia has emerged as a major fan favorite, an accessible, everyman kind of character that seems to be universally loved. Lost co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof realized the impact of Garcia's performance when a flight attendant approached him on the way to Hawaii, where the show is filmed. "It was right after the show had premiered," he says. "Up until that point, people were, like, 'Oh, I like that doctor dude, I like the hot chick, I like the drug guy,' but nobody really knew their names yet. But she walked up and goes, 'My husband and I just love Hurley so much.' I think, at that point, he's only referred to by name one or two times over the course of the episode. I'll watch an entire season of television and not know a character's name. I'll be, like, 'Oh, the blond dude on ER.' I just felt like he had obviously made quite an impression with her."
The character of Hurley didn't exist prior to Garcia's audition--at least not in the form that ended up onscreen. "[The creators] had this part of Hurley, but [they] hadn't written anything for Hurley yet, because we didn't know Hurley was going to be a series regular. He was going to be this redneck, 50-year-old hunter guy," says Webster.... Read the full story here.

The Times-Picayune - 'Lost' and found
Boone and Shannon may be the most enigmatic members of the huge cast of "Lost," the ABC network's castaway classic.
Played by Mandeville native Ian Somerhalder and actress Maggie Grace, they appear to be constantly bickering siblings, overprivileged but otherwise underwhelming.
   Right? Probably not.
   We'll learn more tonight.
A breakaway freshman hit as Nielsen's No. 10-rated series for the season, "Lost" has at times veered riskily toward "Twin Peaks" territory in some of its fantastic sub-stories, but the biggie-size roster of characters and their post-plane-crash predicament has hijacked the imaginations of an average 15.9 million viewers each week.
At 7 tonight on WGNO-Channel 26, Boone and Shannon finally get their "flashback" episode.
In one of the drama's most endearing tricks, the backgrounds of the involuntary islanders have been revealed, one-by-one and bit-by-bit, as the season moves on.
Interviewed by telephone from the show's Hawaii base, Somerhalder, who recently turned 26, said he couldn't reveal specifics of tonight's episode except to say, "It was the best week, the most intense week, that I've ever had shooting."
He actually said more, but we're saving it for the end of the story, "Lost"-style.... Read the full story here.

Time Magazine - Welcome to His Unreality
There needed to be a monster. That, in a nutshell, was what J.J. Abrams and his co-creator, Damon Lindelof, decided soon after Lloyd Braun, then ABC's entertainment chairman, gave them this assignment: Write a show about plane-crash castaways on a desert island. The parallel to a certain CBS series was obvious. If Survivor was Gilligan's Island with real people, Lost would be Survivor with fake people. But Abrams, who had raised the spy serial to new heights of cliff-hanging absurdity with Alias, knew that the series would need something extra, something weird, to sustain the audience's interest and his own.
So Abrams and his partner gave the island a deadly (unseen) monster. Fine. A lot of writers might have done that. But with Abrams, there was also a polar bear in the jungle. There was a mad Frenchwoman marooned on the island for 16 years. There was a scary Canadian guy named Ethan living among the crash survivors, although he was not on the plane's manifest. "We were saying from the beginning, 'This is the level of reality we're dealing with,'" says Abrams. "If you're not up for that, you won't like where the show goes."
Turns out, people were up for that. Although it was neither a reality series nor a procedural cop show--the dominant formats of the past few years--Lost (Wednesdays, 8 p.m. E.T.) was an instant top-10 hit. ABC last week moved Alias, a cult favorite whose ratings never matched the fame of its star Jennifer Garner, into the hour afterward; it won the time period with its biggest prime-time audience ever. It is only fitting that Abrams should get, essentially, his own night on the network, because he has practically invented his own genre: intelligent confections that combine preposterous adventures with emotional impact, well-rounded characters and crisp, funny writing. Call it unreality TV.... Read the full story here.

USA Today - The many aliases of J.J. Abrams
A J.J. Abrams workday seems to have as much complexity as one of his TV shows.
Before he can even get to his Alias office at Disney's studios, producers intercept him in the parking lot for a quick consultation on his other ABC series, the instant hit Lost.
Then he is interrupted by a phone call about musical selections and then a pounding on his window: Producer Bryan Burk relays ABC's enthusiasm for an episode of Alias, which has a two-hour, fourth-season premiere tonight (9 ET/PT) after Lost's post-holiday return.
During this interview, he has to take a break to talk with an actress about a role in Mission: Impossible 3, the Tom Cruise vehicle that will be Abrams' feature-film directing debut. And that's before he checks in on four projects being considered for the fall TV schedule.
Abrams, 38, thrives on multitasking. But even he must slow down to sort out the threads as he tries to relate the earlier call. "It was about Lost. Sorry. Alias. It was about Alias but Lost at the end," he says.... Read the full story here.

Reuters - 'Lost,' 'Alias' Boost ABC in Wednesday Ratings
It was a big night all around on broadcast primetime Wednesday, with a huge return for "Lost" and one of the highest ratings for "Alias" ever.
ABC easily won the night, as "Lost" fans got to see their first new episode since Dec. 8.
ABC averaged 17.8 million viewers for the night, trailed by CBS (11.6 million), NBC (11 million) and Fox (8 million), according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. ABC also trounced the competition in the race for adults 18-49, winning the coveted demo with a 7.3 rating/18 share; CBS ran a distant second for the night with 3.7/9 average.
ABC's ratings were courtesy of "Lost," whose one-hour easily trounced the competition with big numbers in both total viewers (21.5 million) and in adults 18-49 (8.3/21).... Read the full story here.

Mediaweek Programming Insider - Lost and the Solid Return of Alias Lead ABC to Victory
In more positive news for ABC, Lost (#1: 13.8/20; Viewers: #1: 21.46 million; A18-49: #1: 8.4/21 at 8 p.m.) and the two-hour fourth-season premiere of Alias (#1 overall: 11.3/16; Viewers: #1 overall, 16.05 million; A18-49: #1 in every half-hour, 6.7/16 from 9-11 p.m.) led the network to Wednesday victory. Comparably, ABC's advantage over the No. 2 network (NBC in the overnights, CBS in total viewers and adults 18-49) was an average 34 percent in the overnights, 6.24 million viewers and 97 percent among adults 18-49. Although ratings for Alias declined as the evening progressed (overnight track - 9 p.m.: 13.1/18 - 9:30 p.m.: 11.7/16 - 10 p.m.: 10.5/15 - 10:30 p.m.: 9.8/15), this still could very well be spy drama's best performance in over three years. Welcome back, Jennifer Garner - ABC finally found the right time period for you.... Read the full story here.

Zap2It TV Ratings - ABC Tells Wednesday Competition to Get 'Lost'
"Lost" scored a 12.8/19 at 8 p.m., the show's best ratings this season. CBS took second for the hour with "60 Minutes," 7.7/12. The "SI Swimsuit Model Search" debuted to a tepid 5.1/8 for NBC. FOX was fourth, averaging 4.1/6 with "That '70s Show" and "Quintuplets." A "Smallville" rerun on The WB beat out the premiere of UPN's "Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott," 2.0/3.... Zap2It - Burly Hurley of 'Lost' Gets Cryptic
The plucky survivors of ABC's "Lost" could serve as a casebook for how most people would respond to being stranded on a deserted (and mysterious) island. Some folks would be as handy and altruistic as Matthew Fox's Jack or as malevolently resourceful as Josh Holloway's Sawyer. Few of us would show the eerie mastery of Terry O'Quinn's Locke, but the reluctant brattiness of Maggie Grace's Shannon would probably be in abundance. For most viewers, though, emulating Jorge Garcia's Hurley would be the best of all possible worlds.
Like the subject of Rudyard Kipling's "If," Hurley has kept his head when all about him are losing theirs. Like that poem's ideal hero, he doesn't necessarily look too good nor talk too wise, but on the fractious island, he's a friend to all and an enemy to none, a gentle giant perfectly willing to do hard labor, deskwork or even invent a liberating game of island golf. It's no wonder that Fox and Holloway and Evangline Lilly may get the press, Garcia has broken out as one of the show's most popular stars.
"I feel like suddenly I get a bit better customer service, where people are more anxious to help me," Garcia says of his public reception. "Usually when people spot me, they're really happy to see me."
While the other characters on "Lost" constantly appear grimy and miserable, stressed out and on the verge of giving up, Hurley always just seems happy to be alive. He's quick with a joke, the only castway who could possibly be described as happy-go-lucky. Garcia seems to be the same way. The 25-year-old actor arrived at auditions for "Lost" before the character of Hurley even existed and found himself reading pages for Sawyer. Even once producers assured him that his character would exist and that there copies of the pilot script were available, the actor wasn't in any kind of rush to see how many lines he got or whether he'd get to have any big emotional moments. Most familiar from comedic work on "Becker" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Garcia had all the information he needed.... Read the full story here.

OC Register - Found: the road to fame
Two years ago, Jorge Garcia was still working in retail. Selling books was a cool gig, he thought, but deep inside he knew things had to change.
Now the young actor, who was raised in San Juan Capistrano, has made his mark playing Hugo "Hurley" Reyes on ABC's "Lost," one of this season's breakout hits. Since the show's debut in mid-September, millions of viewers have tuned in to see Garcia's work as the lovable 6-foot-1, 350-pound Buddha-like guy stranded on a deserted island with 46 other survivors of a commercial jetliner crash.
"I think my character has hit a chord with a lot of people," Garcia, 25, said recently. "They can relate to him."
For the past decade Garcia has been preparing to break into show business, never giving up even when he could barely afford to pay the rent. In recent years he had been trying to land the role that would help elevate his career to a new level....
...Fans around the globe discuss plotlines and characters on Internet chat boards such as the one on the unofficial site www.lost-tv.com, which was founded by Rainier Robles, 22, of the Philippines.
"All the stories and characters are compelling," Robles said. "The show has so many twists and turns that it's hard to predict what happens next."
Robles decided to start the site early during the production because he was already a fan of "Lost" executive producer J.J. Abrams, who also created "Alias" and "Felicity." The actors on "Lost" are some of his favorites.
"Jorge Garcia is a funny and talented actor," Robles said. "He has made what could have been an ordinary one-note comic relief into an interesting character. Plus I think it's great that he checks up on his (Internet) fans."... Read the full story here.

Your Top 5 Lost Moments of 2004!
   5. The opening sequence. (Pilot Pt. 1) (32 points, 3 first place votes) The way the series began certainly made its mark on quite a lot of viewers. It started with an eye opening, and continued with a lone man, Jack, flung far away from the crash returning to the disastrous scene. Shannon standing still, screaming. Charlie barely reacting to a burning piece of the plane crashing right behind him. Jack giving Rose CPR. Jack making sure Claire and Hurley don't get blown to bits. And as the credits roll, we see how devastating the crash really is, in slow motion.
   4. Hurley discovers someone isn't on the manifest, just as Claire and Charlie encounter a menacing Ethan. (Raised by Another) (36 points, 3 first place votes) Just as Sayid returns from his encounter with Danielle (which placed 12th, by the way), Hurley breathlessly returns to the caves with troubling news. After completing his census of the island, then counter-checking it with the plane's manifest, he discovers to his horror that one person was not on the manifest. Cut to Claire and Charlie making their way back to the caves, their path suddenly blocked by a menacing Ethan Rom. Claire and Charlie, as well as the audience, realize that something is not right with Ethan, and the episode ends with Claire's worried look.
   3. Sawyer and Kate kiss. (Confidence Man) (46 points, 3 first place votes) After Sayid threatens to remove one of his eyes, Sawyer finally relents and says he'll tell only one person where Shannon's meds are: Kate. She asks Sawyer once again where the meds are. Sawyer repeats his earlier deal: One kiss, and he'll reveal where the meds are. Kate then leans in... and Sawyer and Kate share the first ever kiss on the show. The kiss is a little too long and a little too intimate, and Kate has to tear herself away from it. Later, Sawyer reveals he doesn't have the meds, and in return, Kate punches Sawyer.
   2. Locke's condition is finally revealed at the travel agency. (Walkabout) (78 points, 7 first place votes) In a travel agency in Australia, Locke is arguing with an agent. Locke insists that he is fully able to go on his walkabout, but the travel agent won't have any of it. Locke apparently did not disclose his "condition." As the bus starts to leave, Locke yells out a defiant "Don't tell me what I can't do!" as the camera zooms out... and reveals that Locke is in a wheelchair. It is at that moment that we discover just what Locke's miracle is.
   1. Jack and Kate find Charlie hanging dead on a tree... and Jack, somehow, revives Charlie. (All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues) (85 points, 8 first place votes) Jack and Kate have been tracking Ethan Rom, and Ethan has just threatened Jack that he will kill one of them if he doesn't stop. This just eggs Jack on, and he hears what seems to be Claire screaming (Kate doesn't seem to hear it). They finally found a truly horrific sight: Charlie, bound and blindfolded, hanging lifeless from a tree. Kate climbs the tree and cuts the vines that Charlie was hanging from, and Jack proceeds to try and revive Charlie. As the minutes drag on, it seems that the end has truly come for Charlie, and Kate starts to break down. For a moment, she convinces Jack to stoop trying to bring him back, but Jack persists and pounds Charlie's chest even harder. Suddenly, Charlie regains consciousness and gasps for air, much to Jack and Kate's (not to mention some audience members') delight. Discuss the list here.

Honorable Mention: 5 Other Memorable LOST Moments
These five missed out on being in the Top 5. However, they had enough points to make the Top Ten, and they're worth mentioning here; after all, there may be some moments here that you really enjoyed, which might make you wonder even more what the Top 5 are.
   10. "I just shot a polar bear!" (Pilot Pt. 2 of 2) (12 points, 0 first place votes) Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, and company are hiking through the woods and the mountains looking for high ground in order to get a signal. Suddenly, they hear a noise in the fields... something is charging at them! Everyone runs away... except for Sawyer, who suddenly takes out a gun and shoots at the creature. He kills it, and they find the corpse of... a polar bear.
   9. "The transmission has been playing for 16 years..." (Pilot Pt. 2 of 2) (20 points, 2 first place votes) Kate and the gang finally make it to higher ground, and Sayid tries to get a signal. However, he can't... there's another message being transmitted. Everyone listens in to the French message, which appears to have been playing for a while now. Shannon, with her limited knowledge of French, translates the message, saying "it killed them all." As if that weren't disturbing enough, Sayid calculates how long the transmission has been playing... 16 years. The scene is punctuated by Charlie asking the now-classic question, "Guys, where are we?"
   8. Sayid tortures Sawyer. (Confidence Man) (21 points, 0 first place votes) Shannon is having an asthma attack, and Boone is convinced Sawyer has her meds. Sawyer, however, won't give them up. Sayid decides to use his skills to make Sawyer talk. Sayid, with Jack, wakes Sawyer up, and knocks him unconscious. They then tie up Sawyer to a tree, and Sayid tries to get Sawyer to speak. Sawyer, cocky as always, believes that Sayid has never tortured anyone and goes on to taunt him, to which Sayid says, "Unfortunately for us both, you are wrong." Sayid then produces some sharpened bamboo shoots and inserts them under Sawyer's fingernails...
   7. Charlie convinces Claire to move to the caves with an empty jar of peanut butter. (Confidence Man) (21 points, 1 first place vote) Earlier in the episode, Claire tells Charlie of her cravings for peanut butter. Charlie, who was trying to convince Claire to move to the caves, tells Claire that if he can get peanut butter, she has no choice but to move to the caves. Towards the end of the episode, Charlie triumphantly declares to Claire that he has found some peanut butter. After warning her that it's extra smooth, he produces... an empty jar. "It's empty," Claire says. "No it's not," counters Charlie, who proceeds to scoop up a healthy helping of imaginary peanut butter, licking it off his fingers. Claire plays along, and proceeds to move to the cave.
   6. Charlie asks for his drugs for a third time... and tosses it into the fire. (The Moth) (23 points, 2 first place votes) After struggling with withdrawal effects, and later rescuing Jack from the cave-in, a still-rattled yet triumphant Charlie approaches Locke at the campfire. "Give me back my drugs," he tells Locke. Making good on their earlier agreement to give back his drugs after the third time he asks for them, Locke gives it back. Charlie holds the drugs in his hand for one moment... then tosses it into the campfire. He looks at Locke, who has a proud look on his face, then Charlie shifts his attention to a flying moth. Discuss this here.

Zap2It - Lost's Boone and Locke Become Buddies
Having grown up in the bayous of Mandeville, Louisiana, Ian Somerhalder has been a bit frustrated in his role as rich-boy Boone on ABC's freshman hit drama "Lost," airing Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, which focuses on survivors of a plane crash on a tropical island.
"All we knew about Boone is he followed his sister a lot," Somerhalder says, "she griped at him a lot, and they were these spoiled rich kids. No one likes a spoiled rich kid, and I thought to myself, 'That's not who they are.' Boone is a guy who's about to learn a lot about life really fast. I almost felt pity for him, because he didn't know the things that I, Ian, knew about surviving.
"I grew up in Louisiana. We had horses and land. You learn how to survive. You understand the way things work in the woods, if you need to build a fire, tie a rope, make a rope out of something else. He didn't know any of these things. He was very fragile in that environment, where I wouldn't have been.... Read the full story here.
