The National Ledger - Grey's Anatomy and Lost's Mr. Eko to Battle over Sidney Poitier
Now that more of the back story of his Mr. Eko is being revealed on "Lost," Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje says, "I'd love to get Sidney Poitier to play my father. He's always been a great inspiration to me." When he's informed that Isaiah Washington told this column he's thinking of putting in his bid for Mr. Poitier to play his father on "Grey's Anatomy," Akinnuoye-Agbaje declares with a laugh, "Well, he's going to have to wait, isn't he? 'Cause we just won The Golden Globe! Who's got first choice? Where would you go?" Actually, it sounds like Washington might already have the inside track with the big-screen pioneer who paved the way for black actors in such films as "Lilies of the Field," "In the Heat of the Night" and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Since this column reported Washington's desire to do a remake of Poitier's 1973 romantic comedy, "A Warm December," he happily reports, "I've been in contact with Sidney.... Read the full story here. Asbury Park Press - Asian Talent Making Inroads on Television
Once upon a time, not so long ago, the only Asian presence on prime time television was in rare supportive roles like that of Mrs. Livingston (Miyoshi Umeki), the housekeeper on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," or Mr. Sulu (George Takei), the helmsman on "Star Trek." But in the last few years, such Asian stars as Daniel Dae Kim ("Lost"), Sandra Oh ("Grey's Anatomy") and Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville") have begun to portray significant characters in TV comedies and dramas. At 8 tonight, AZN Television, a cable network for Asian-Americans, will usher in the Lunar New Year by broadcasting "The 2006 Asian Excellence Awards, featuring the Remy Martin X.O. Honors" in the first televised program showcasing Asian talent in Hollywood.... Read the full story here. (12:25 AM)
C21Media - BVITV strikes Lost, Housewives deal with C4
Buena Vista International Television (BVITV) and the UK's Channel 4 New Media have agreed a deal enabling viewers to access exclusive clips of Lost and Desperate Housewives online and via mobile. Following high demand for the series, C4 New Media has licensed online and mobile clips of Lost, enabling fans to access two- and three-minute trailers of every episode from series one and, in the month prior to UK transmission, series two. The deal also includes behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and previews of the next episode. In addition, original content such as The Lost Video Daries, designed especially for mobile and DVD distribution platforms, will become available later this year. The Diaries will be available later this year in the UK exclusively on C4's Lost site and the C4 mobile portal.... Read the full story here. (12:21 AM)
Orlando Sentinel - Guys go for TV's flawed heroes
There was a heart-wrenching moment at the end of last season's final episode of the ABC series Lost when a character named Michael tries to find his kidnapped son. Michael lives for his child; like the rest of the characters in Lost, the two of them are trapped on a tropical island after surviving a plane crash. When word of Michael's desperate mission reaches Sawyer -- a booze-hoarding narcissist who in his past killed an innocent man -- his reaction is not what you would call sympathetic. "It's every man for hisself," Sawyer snarls. Not so long ago Sawyer's callousness would have made him a villain, but on Lost, he is sympathetic, a man whose penchant for dispensing Darwinian truths over kindnesses drives not only the action but the show's underlying theme, that in the social chaos of the modern world, the only sensible reflex is self-interest.... The Clarion-Ledger - Innovative TV series finds a huge fan base
Word has spread even among nonviewers: Lost, the ABC hit television series, is addictive. "I've got friends who will cover their ears and close their eyes when they walk through their living rooms if it's on," says Anna Ward, 27, a Jackson attorney. "They're scared if they see or hear anything, they'll be hooked." Millions of Americans already are. Lost, which is filmed on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, ranks as the fourth most-watched prime-time program. It won the 2005 Emmy Award as Best TV Series and the 2006 Golden Globe for Best Drama Series.... Read the full story here. (12:16 AM)
People - Dominic & Evangeline's Hush-Hush Love Life
Some Lost castaways are obsessed with numbers – particularly the six cursed numerals that frequently pop up on the hit series. Dominic Monaghan, however, is all about the alphabet. "Dom is obsessed with Scrabble," says castmate Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley. "He plays it all the time – even on his cell phone at work." Admits Monaghan: "People will say things, and I'll Scrabble what they say in my head. I'll think of triple word scores all the time.... Read the full story here. (12:09 AM)

Associated Press - Cast of 'Lost' Celebrates Ensemble Acting
You've heard it before: It's an honor just to be nominated. And when the nomination comes for the entire cast, it's even better, said the stars of "Lost" moments before they walked into the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday and learned they had won the Screen Actors Guild Award for best ensemble performance in a drama series. "We're nominated by actors, who are a very snooty, very discerning kind of race," said Dominic Monaghan, who plays Charlie on the series. "Ultimately this show is an ensemble show. It's acted by a group of 16 or 17 very talented actors, and no one really stands above anyone else." It is a diverse cast, however, said Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid Jarrah. "I think we're sort of pushing the envelope in that way," Andrews said during a stop on the red carpet. "You won't see this kind of cast anywhere else. It's highly unusual, and if people can learn from that, that would be good." Read the full story here. (12:07 AM)
Associated Press - 'Lost' Star Named As TV's Top 'Hunk'
Josh Holloway, who plays con man Sawyer on the hit ABC series "Lost," has been named the "hottest hunk" on television by In Touch Weekly. The magazine, in an issue on newsstands Friday, says the 36-year-old actor is the best of today's small-screen studs, even surpassing castmate Matthew Fox. Fox, who plays Jack on the Emmy-winning drama series, landed ninth on the top-10 list. Of Holloway, "Lost" co-star Evangeline Lilly is quoted saying, "He's the guy who opens doors, carries the bags for woman and makes sure they feel protected. It's a very endearing quality.... "Man of Science, Man of Faith" is The Futon Critic's 3rd Best Episode of 2005
The Futon Critic released its list of the Top 50 Best Episodes of 2005, and the second season premiere, "Man of Science, Man of Faith," ranked third. "Even cooler than seeing what was in the hatch was how we were shown - the episode opens with an unseen figure going about his daily routine in what appeared to be a flashback to one of the character's pre-crash lives, only to be interrupted by the very explosion used to open the hatch in last season's finale. There's just nothing like this show on TV, period." ("Walkabout" was the top-ranked episode of 2004. 2005's chart-topper is "Three Stories" from House, the episode which won the Emmy for writing... beating out "Walkabout.") (8:03 AM)

Los Angeles Times - 'Brokeback Mountain,' 'Lost' Win Producers Guild Awards
"Brokeback Mountain," the controversial, critically acclaimed drama about two cowboys in love, earned top honors Sunday from the Producers Guild of America. The Ang Lee-directed film continues to sweep up this awards season, making it a likely contender for an Oscar nomination. The film's producers, Diana Ossana and James Schamus, were honored at the guild's 17th annual awards show. "Brokeback" edged out "Capote," "Crash," "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Walk the Line".... ...Taking home the award for best TV drama was ABC's "Lost" and J.J. Reuters - 'Lost' cast members find big pay rises
The cast of ABC's "Lost" has even more to cheer about beyond the show's recent Golden Globe win for best drama series. "Lost" producer Touchstone Television has offered all original members of the large ensemble cast a substantial salary bump in exchange for an additional year to the actors' current contracts. The studio's pre-emptive offer would see the actors earn almost $80,000 each an episode next season, the show's third, up from a range of about $20,000-$40,000 for most cast members this season. All original cast members, including Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Naveen Andrews, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O'Quinn, Jorge Garcia, Daniel Dae Kim, Yunjin Kim and Harold Perrineau, have been offered the same deal and are expected to take it. Fox, who plays the pivotal role of Jack, is said to have earned an extra bonus of at least $250,000. However, in the spirit of the show where no character is safe from being killed off or otherwise removed from the mysterious island where the series is set, the actors are said to have no guarantees about the length of their tenure on the show.... CTV.ca - The secrets of 'Lost' can be found online
Every episode of "Lost" raises more questions that it does answers, which leaves rabid fans desperate for more. It's not uncommon for viewers to rush from their television to their computers to find out more about their favorite show. And when it comes to obsessive online fandom, "Lost" ranks up there with the most dedicated. We're talking Trekkie levels here. It all began with a couple teaser websites that were to give away clues to upcoming episodes. If eager viewers looked hard enough, they could find a rejected page of the show's official script on a fake "Oceanic Airlines" website. But the website had no mention of the show, and masqueraded as an authentic airline website.... ...For anyone looking for more information about the show, unofficial fan sites are the way to go, with the exception being ABC's official "Lost page." These pages usually link to all the latest "Lost" interviews and spoilers. But for the curious, there are also a few sites that take obsession to a new level and provide a different look at the show.... ... The Barre Montpelier Times Argus - Paradise found for 'Lost' star Daniel Dae Kim
Beaten, kidnapped and tossed in a pit, Jin Soo Kwon hasn't had many pleasant days on ABC's hit drama "Lost." He's stranded on a mysterious island with dozens of plane-crash survivors who don't speak his language and carry way more baggage than the suitcases they brought on ill-fated Oceanic Airlines Flight 815. In real life, actor Daniel Dae Kim, 37, who plays Jin, the Korean tough guy, couldn't be happier.... Read the full story here. (6:04 AM)
ABC News - 'Lost' strikes a chord worldwide
"Lost," Disney's TV drama about a plane crash on a remote island, is proving to be an unusually universal hit as its confounding plot sucks in global viewers from Laos to Latvia. "The survivor instinct is universal," said Tom Toumazis, a senior vice president and managing director for Disney's Buena Vista International Television unit. "It's not set in a forensic lab in Vegas, or a police station in New York. The setting could be anywhere, any island, any plane." Disney bet big on the lavishly produced show, with an international cast and $10 million pilot episode that was the most expensive in television history. The plane crashes in the first moments, and viewers only learn about the back stories of the survivors through extended flashback sequences.... Read the full story here. (5:49 AM)

USA Today - On the clock: '24' and its fans
Jack's back. But will fans of 24 make time to watch? Fox's real-time thriller, entering its fifth season with two-hour episodes Sunday and Monday (8 p.m. ET/PT), was once largely alone among serialized story lines as network TV moved toward self-contained CSIs and Law & Orders. But 24's success led to a wholesale shift to cliffhanger TV, led by top-10 hits Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey's Anatomy, not to mention Prison Break, Invasion, The O.C. and others.... ...But ABC, which has staked much of its comeback on continuing sagas, says strong ratings prove that viewers are smitten with their complex story lines and richly developed characters. "I don't think people are getting tired of it. I think people are clamoring for it," says entertainment chief Steve McPherson, evidenced by the passionate reaction to such shows as Lost. "It's very important to the business that there's 'appointment television' that the public wants to watch that same night.... Read the full story here. (9:28 AM)

MSNBC - Viewers can relate to Globes TV categories
Pick up the paper Tuesday morning and you'll read all about the big winner at the previous night's Golden Globes. The headlines will scream about "Brokeback Mountain" or Woody Allen's "Match Point" but no matter who comes out on top, most of the nation won't relate. Call "Lost" the evening's champ and a collective "Way to go!" will be heard throughout the land. Yeah, the Globes are all about the movies, as the ceremony unofficially kicks off the Academy Awards race and its ramifications determine who are the favorites to take home Oscars. But especially this year, when so many of the movies are indies which much of the filmgoing public have never seen - where's "King Kong" in all this? - the Globes' connection to the common folk are in its TV categories.... LOST Returns with a NEW EPISODE TONIGHT!
The long wait is over: Lost is back from its Holiday/Winter Hiatus with a brand-new episode tonight! The episode is entitled "The 23rd Psalm," and ABC describes the episode as such: Mr. Eko interrogates Charlie about the Virgin Mary statue, Claire begins to lose faith in Charlie when she discovers his secret, and Jack is an interested observer when Kate gives the recovering Sawyer a much-needed haircut. Star-Telegram - Feeling 'Lost'?
I dreamed I was a cast member killed off of Lost. I was in the ocean, adrift on a raft, hanging out with one of its new stars, Michelle Rodriguez (this was pre-DUI arrest, otherwise I never would have let her drive the raft). The way the current started rippling, I could tell something gargantuan was lurching toward us beneath the water. When the Lost theme music started playing -- you know, that nightmarish, synthesized drone that implies, well, death -- I knew my number was up. "How could this be?" I remember thinking. "Why wouldn't they deep-six that Libby chick or one of the other Tailies before they axed my character? I've been with these bozos since the beginning." And then I woke up and started looking for a therapist.... Read the full story here. (8:33 AM)
The Globe and Mail - Lost is found on a blog near you
After a six-week hiatus, a new episode of ABC's hit series Lost will air tonight. If you spend any amount of time tracking the show on-line, you already know that and much more -- podcasts, forums and blogs have been pumping out rumours and opinions since New Year's in an attempt to make up for lost time. The mystery soap about crash survivors marooned on a tropical island has spawned one of the most robust on-line communities for a TV show. The series invites speculation -- What is that wispy monster thing? Does Kate love Sawyer or Jack? Just how insane is John Locke? -- and often includes clues and hints in bizarre locations. It is, in essence, a very fun show to talk about. For many fans of Lost and other TV fare, the outlet for such discussions is the Internet. Water-cooler conversations are now often interrupted by spoiler-wary viewers on different schedules: They are watching Season One on DVD or their video iPods and don't want to hear that Mr. Eko stopped talking because -- oh, sorry, that is tonight's 9 p.m. episode. We can talk about that -- and the 8 p.m. Lost special summarizing the story thus far -- tomorrow. Although Lost's on-line presence takes many forms, most of it is, in a word, chatty. That certainly applies to the forums dedicated to the show on sites such as TV.com and Lost-Media.com. One such discussion on Lost-Media, about the last episode of 2005, has over 6,000 posts and hundreds of threads, the branching conversations that are the basis of on-line bulletin boards.... The Boston Globe - Wait wait! Don't tell me!
To anyone who will be watching "Lost" tonight, or is catching up on this season's episodes, or has considered checking out the series in the future, I have news for you: Shannon is dead. Not that this should be a big surprise. It happened in November. ABC had teased, for weeks, that its hit show would kill a major character. And even before the episode aired, entertainment wonks had scrambled to leak the secret online. At a certain point, it was hard not to know what was going to happen. Still, I'm sure I'll get a rash of angry e-mails, berating me for publishing a dreaded spoiler. They'll say they're getting through last season's shows on DVD, or are catching up with stored shows on their TiVos. They'll tell me I've ruined a "Lost" experience they hoped to have in the future. To which I'd love to reply: Get over it.... Read the full story here. (8:28 AM)

USA Today - Evasive 'Mr. Eko' revealed
Mysterious Mr. Eko, who emerged from the ocean this season on Lost along with the other "tailies" from the back half of the plane, has been the strong, silent type, a man of few words. Viewers will get to know Eko better as his past is revealed when the hit ABC show returns tonight (9 ET/PT) after a six-week break. "It's a smashing back story. I've not seen anything like it on network TV," says Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, 38, a London-born actor whose most notable recent television role was the murderous drug-addicted prisoner Adebisi on HBO's gritty prison series Oz.... St. Petersburg Times - Web ensnares 'Lost' souls
At the end of the last new episode of Lost, back in November, a surprising message popped up on the screen of a computer on which communication with the outside world is forbidden. The "Hello?" might have been Walt, the island's missing child, or the creepy, mysterious Others. Or maybe it was the show's online fandom. The hit ABC series returns Wednesday with its first new episode in six weeks. Fans around the world are poised not just to watch it but to race to their computers to dissect it, deconstruct it and divine its place in the show's evolving mythology, which burgeons not just on TV but on the Internet.... ... Lost sites aren't just about Sawyer's abs or what Walt's ghost says when you play the audio backward. Just ask Amy Bauer, an assistant professor of music theory at the University of California Irvine and the Web master for the Society for the Study of Lost at loststudies.com. "As an academic who likes pop culture, I became enamored of the early X-Files enough to write a paper on it, and then became involved in Buffy the Vampire Slayer studies," she writes in an e-mail. She became active on www.losttv-forum.com which was online months before the show began and which Bauer calls "the premier site on the Web" for Lost discussion.... Read the full story here. (9:12 AM)
Arkansas Democrat Gazette - SEC bounces Lost
This gets complicated, so pay close attention. First the good news. Lost finally returns with two episodes beginning Wednesday at 7pm. The first is a compilation episode to catch viewers up since the show's been off for a while. The 8pm offering will be a fresh, all-new regular episode never before seen. The bad news is if you watch Lost on KATV, you'll get SEC basketball instead. Alabama and Auburn fans will be happy, but Lost fans will be fuming.... ...Wednesday's 7pm compilation episode will air after Jimmy Kimmel at 12:35am Thursday morning (considered Wednesday late night in the TV biz). Wednesday's all-new 8pm episode will air at 12:35am Friday morning. Set your VCRs and DVRs accordingly. Wait. It gets more complicated. On Jan. 18 ABC plans to air this week's new 8 pm episode at 7 pm followed by an all-new episode at 8. KATV will air the Jan. 18 new (8 pm) episode at 12:35 am Jan. 19 after Kimmel. Zap2It - The Journey of 'Lost'
"Basically, 'Lost' is one of those things," says executive producer Carlton Cuse, "where you have to appreciate the journey and try not to worry about the endpoint. We're not in control of the endpoint." The Wednesday-night ABC megahit about the survivors of the crash of a Sydney-to-Los Angeles airliner on a deserted island -- which turned out to be not so deserted after all -- returns on Wednesday, Jan. 11, with the first new season-two episode in a while. According to ABC, in "The 23rd Psalm," tail-section strongman Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) quizzes recovering addict Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) about his heroin-stuffed Virgin Mary statue; upon discovering Charlie's secret, Claire (Emilie de Ravin) loses faith in him; and Jack (Matthew Fox) looks on as Kate (Evangeline Lilly) gives Sawyer (Josh Holloway) a haircut.... Los Angeles Times - 'Lost' is easy to find
In its monster hit "Lost," ABC has found more than just a highly rated, award-winning television show with the potential to spin off sequels. "Lost" has become a world of its own, albeit fictional, that, with its labyrinth of clues and multilayered plots, has become the test case for the marriage between new technology and creative content. Getting "Lost" has never been easier. It's on your TV set, your DVR, your iPod and DVD collection — and that's just the Wednesday-night program itself. TV Critics Rank LOST as 2005's Best Show
2005 has ended, and as is customary for writers and critics everywhere, they have produced quite a number of Top Ten lists. Lost, unsurprisingly, figured in many of these lists, even being cited as the best show of 2005 by many of these critics. Lost was judged as the Best Show of 2005 by Mark Dawidziak ( The Cleveland Plain Dealer), Charlie McCollum ( Knight-Ridder Tribune), Mike Duffy ( Detroit Free Press), Chuck Barney ( Contra Costa Times), and Rick Kushman ( Sacramento Bee). Tim Goodman ( San Francisco Chronicle) ranked it at #6 on his Top Ten list. Also including Lost in their (unranked) Top Ten lists are David Bianculli ( New York Daily News), Sonia Mansfield ( The San Francisco Examiner), and the tandem of Sid Smith and Maureen Ryan ( Chicago Tribune). Matt Zoller Seitz of The New Jersey Star-Ledger left out Lost in his Top Ten, but named gave it an Honorable Mention. Lastly, Matthew Gilbert of Boston Globe named the second season premiere of Lost, "Man of Science, Man of Faith," as the 4th Best Episode of 2005. (5:59 AM)

Seattle Post-Intelligencer - It's the extreme stuff that we'll remember
All seen and told, 2005 was a year of recovering and rebuilding on television. Commercial networks gave us groundbreaking drama and, against the most dire predictions, comedy worth fitting into our schedules.... Greatest Twist You Didn't See Coming: Walt's kidnapping on ABC's "Lost." Leave it to Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse and J.J. Abrams to lead us in the wrong direction, building our fear that Claire's infant was in the Others' sights when what they wanted all along was Walt. The moment he was taken will go down as one of the most tragic, gut-wrenching scenes on television, and one that left you a little sick as the kidnappers' boat sped away. But now that the year is over, I hope the writers resolve that thread very soon.... Read the full story here. (5:45 AM)
New York Daily News - 'Lost' author finds avocation
For many, a full-time gig as a television writer, especially for a show as beloved as the hit ABC series "Lost," would be the ideal job. But Damon Lindelof, the series' head writer, has another, equally dreamy goal. Writing a comic book. With the release last week of his debut, Marvel Comics' Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #1, Lindelof joins a growing fraternity of television and movie writers and directors — as well as best-selling authors — eagerly taking Spider-Man and his brethren for a spin. It's a welcome boost for the comic book industry, which is hoping these new authors' mainstream audiences will come along for the ride.... Read the full story here. (5:35 AM)
