TestPattern - 'Lost' News: An Old Face Returns
Comic-Con attendees, we're really sorry. Except maybe not so much. Once the TV critics at today's ABC executive session heard confirmation from network president Steve McPherson that the creators of the show "Lost" were going to be making a big announcement tomorrow at San Diego Comic-Con, it was as if the sharks had smelled blood in the water. Reporters harangued McPherson until an assistant came dashing out and whispered in his ear. (Stop reading here if you don't want a spoiler.)

Someone had contacted "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof and he gave ABC the OK to go ahead and feed the chum, er, the news, to the reporters and not save it for the comic-book fans. And here it is.... Read the full story (with spoiler) here.

Gold Derby by Tom O'Neil - Emmy's biggest snub: How the heck did 'Lost' get lost?
Recently, the TV academy overhauled Emmy voting just to make sure "Lost" got nominated for best drama series. But it still got snubbed — just like last year, after having won the top prize in 2005. Last year's slap was actually self-administered: its producers submitted a sample episode that didn't make sense to judges who weren't regular viewers of a serialized drama full of dangling plot lines and irritating ghosts who flit in and out of the series, befuddling even diehard fans.
But this year Emmy chiefs decided to reduce the input of judges by 50 percent after they viewed a sample episode. If judges still gave "Lost" a low score, ATAS chiefs figured it could be offset by being mixed on a 50/50 basis with the results of the original popular vote of academy members, which determined the Top 10 finalists.... Gold Derby by Tom O'Neil - Finally! Your official Emmy episode cheat sheet!
...ATAS gave us the official, final list of episode entries. These are the acting samples to be evaluated by voters screening DVDs at home while deciding who wins in each category. These submissions are crucial to know when trying to predict ultimate winners. Note: no changes were permitted after episode declarations were made at the end of May. Initially, ATAS said contenders could switch after nominations were announced, but the academy ended up having the change of heart. Too complicated, no doubt....
For your Outstanding Supporting Actor (Drama) nominees, Michael Emerson submitted "The Man Behind the Curtain," while Terry O'Quinn submitted "The Man from Tallahassee." Let's hope either episode is strong enough for one Lostie to take home the Emmy!
For the complete list of episode submissions, click here. (On a personal note: Neil Patrick Harris submitted the Bob Barker episode! Legendary.)

LOST Panel at Comic-Con 2007 on Thursday!
After making a splashy debut at Comic-Con back in 2004, the Lost panel is making its fourth appearance this year at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2007, at the San Diego Convention Center.
This year, writer/producer team (and Emmy-nominated this year for writing "Through the Looking Glass") Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will be on-hand to discuss Season 4. According to the official program listing: "If the Lost finale was any indication of things to come, you will not want to miss this panel! Co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse will discuss the exciting new season of ABC's Lost, all leading up to the ultimate series finale. They'll spotlight bonus features from the 3rd season DVD box set, preview the new Lost video game, take questions from the audience, and perhaps serve up more surprises." The panel will take place at Ballroom 20 at 5:00-6:00pm on Thursday, July 26.

AfterElton.com Names Hot 100 Men; 4 LOST Men Make It
News Flash: People magazine doesn't cater to gay men. Every year they decree the "Sexiest Man Alive," and more often not, we're left scratching our heads over the selections. So following in the footsteps of our sister site AfterEllen.com (which created their own Hot 100 list last month in response to Maxim's annual list), we at AfterElton.com took it upon ourselves to see what would happen if we asked gay and bisexual men — and gay and bisexual men only — to vote for their favorite fellas. Thousands of votes later, we have the results.
Topping the list is Jake Gyllenhaal. "It might seem like we only love him for playing a gay rancher in Brokeback Mountain," says AfterElton, "but really, we love Jake Gyllenhaal for being our favorite boy next door." Others in the Top Ten are Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Daniel Craig (Casino Royale), Gale Harold (Queer as Folk), Taye Diggs (Rent), Ryan Reynolds (Blade: Trinity), Hugh Jackman (X-Men), T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy), Ryan Phillippe (Flags of our Fathers), and John Barrowman (Torchwood).
Four Lost cast members - or former cast members - appear on the list. Tops among the Lost men is Ian Somerhalder, who, at number 18, placed one rank higher than Justin Timberlake. "Although Ian Somerhalder is undeniably good looking, he doesn’t like to talk about his years spent modeling for fear of being dubbed "just another pretty face." But that's not to say that face isn't worth mentioning," says AfterElton. "Besides modeling, Somerhalder also made a name for himself by acting his sexy butt off, most notably on ABC's breakout series Lost." The other Lost men on the list are Matthew Fox (46), Josh Holloway (47), and Daniel Dae Kim (68).

The Lantern - New pop culture minor brings pizazz to OSU
Although most people watch the ABC series "Lost" for the drama, action and adventure, Jared Gardner views it to brilliantly engage in complex analyses of the structure and hidden meaning behind the series.
"It's hard to watch tv these days," Gardner said. "Watching shows like 'Lost,' means I have to take notes."
Gardner, an associate professor at Ohio State, coordinated a new undergraduate interdisciplinary popular culture studies minor to help OSU students make those same analyses.
"The study of popular culture allows them (students) to experience connections between the skills and training they are receiving in their majors and the world they will be navigating for the rest of their lives," Gardner said.
He said the minor was designed to help students bridge the gap between the popular, public and material cultures of students' daily lives and the cultures that are traditionally studied.... Read the full story here.

The Hollywood Reporter - Williams to stay 'Lost' at ABC Studios
"Lost" director-producer Stephen Williams has inked a two-year deal with ABC Studios, which produces the Emmy-winning series.
Under the pact, Williams has been upped to a co-executive producer on the series. He will continue to direct multiple episodes of "Lost," which returns for a fourth season at midseason.
Williams has directed more than a dozen episodes of the adventure series since its 2004 launch. He joined the show full time as a producer during Season 2 and was upped to supervising producer last season.
This past season, Williams helmed seven hours of "Lost," including the penultimate episode "Greatest Hits" and "Not In Portland."
He is repped by WMA. Read the full story here.

Canada.com - "Lost" star goes French this summer
Evangeline Lilly is working on a film with lots of French flavour and she couldn't be happier.
Lilly is currently in Montreal shooting the indie flick Afterwards, a suspense outing that also stars John Malkovich and French leading man Romain Duris.
The Alberta-born actress is most famous for playing Kate, one of the plane-crash survivors in the phenomenally popular ABC adventure-mystery series Lost. A virtual unknown when she was hired by Lost producers, the show almost immediately transformed Lilly into one of the hottest young talents in Hollywood.
Which is why it's more than a little surprising to see that she's picked an off-the-beaten-track France-Canada co-production for her first major film role. Clearly the Golden-Globe-nominated actress could have had her pick of A-list Hollywood projects. But she instead chose an arty film that is way off the Tinseltown radar.
In an interview last week, the 27-year-old from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., said she accepted the role in Afterwards, which is being co-produced by Christal Films, precisely because it's a real franco affair. It turns out that Lilly speaks fluent French and has always been a closet francophile, and she jumped at the chance to use her summer break from shooting Lost to take part in a largely franco film.... Associated Press - Report: Emmy nominees short list is out
Freshmen series "Heroes" and "Ugly Betty" are on the Emmy-nominations short list, according to a Web site that tracks entertainment awards.
Judges screening potential Emmy Award nominees for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last weekend in Beverly Hills made their picks from a list of the 10 top contenders for the best drama and best comedy series categories, TheEnvelope.com reported Monday.
The Web site quoted unidentified judges.
The top 10 lists given to the judges were based on polling of the general academy membership. Five nominees ultimately will be chosen, based on a combination of the panelists' votes and the general polling.
The drama finalists, according to the Web site, are "Heroes," "Friday Night Lights," "Boston Legal," "Dexter," "Grey's Anatomy," "House," "Lost," "Rome," "The Sopranos" and "24."
The comedy contenders as reported by TheEnvelope are "Ugly Betty," "Desperate Housewives," "Entourage," "Extras," "My Name Is Earl," "The Office," "Scrubs," "30 Rock," "Two and a Half Men" and "Weeds."
The TV academy declined to confirm the accuracy of the information but noted that all academy members taking part in the judging process are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement.
"The Primetime Emmy nomination process should not be compromised by premature disclosure of nominations information prior to the announcement of the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards nominees on July 19," the academy said in its statement Monday.
It had no comment on "any violations of that agreement or on any speculative reporting of nomination data," the academy said. Read the full story here.
