[The freighter sits on a calm ocean at night. Frank is walking toward the hatch door on the main deck, away from the chopper. He is carrying a brown paper bag. Keamy approaches him as he walks out the hatch door.]
KEAMY: Lapidus! You’re ready?
FRANK: (nods) I’ll be up.
KEAMY: Don’t be late Frank.
[Frank walks away, looks back then continues walking with no reaction. He heads for the main deck hatch. He walks down a corridor to sickbay. Regina is sitting in front and guarding the door while reading a book.]
FRANK: Regina?
REGINA: (startled) Frank! I didn’t hear you.
[Regina is reading a book. The title is Survivors of the Chancellor by Jules Verne. She is acting scattered.]
FRANK: Sorry. I didn’t mean to spook you. Captain wanted me to bring these guys some grub.
REGINA: OK.
FRANK: You know you’re book is upside down. Just trying to help.
[Frank sighs. Regina quickly turns the book right side up so it is readable. She appears addled. Frank opens the door and enters sickbay. Sayid gets up and approaches Frank. The door closes and we hear it being locked from the outside. Desmond is sitting on a cot.]
FRANK: Thought I'd check in on you guys and bring you some food
FRANK: (to Desmond) How are you feeling by the way?
DESMOND: I am m much better, thanks.
SAYID: Why are we being held captive? We had nothing to do with Minkowski's death.
FRANK: This has nothing to do with Minkowski. The captain wasn't very happy that you two decided to bust out of sick bay and into our radio room.
SAYID: We didn't bust out. The door was left open! We assumed that was you.
FRANK: (scrunches brows) Why the hell would I do that?
SAYID: (changes subject) Did you have any contact with our people on the beach?
FRANK: No luck. Something must have happened to their phone.
[Frank empties paper bag on a cot. There are multiple cans. He hands a can opener to Sayid.]
SAYID: Lima beans?
FRANK: Sorry, we had a little problem in the kitchen. Just stay put, alright?
SAYID: I still want to talk to the captain.
FRANK: No you don’t.
[Frank goes to leave and knocks on the door.]
FRANK: Regina?
[The door is unlocked. Frank leaves.]
[Switch to the beach. It is still nighttime. Sun is sitting by a fire. Jin joins her with some firewood. He adds some to the fire and sits beside her.]
JIN: (in Korean) What’s wrong?
SUN: (in Korean) Sayid and Desmond left three days ago. Why haven't they come back?
JIN: (in Korean) Perhaps they are returning with the ship.
[Jin kisses Sun on the lips.]
JIN: (in Korean) Now come on. We have more important things to talk about.
SUN: (in Korean) Like what?
JIN: Let’s talk about baby names.
SUN: Good. You’re getting better. But no Jin. (in Korean) it is bad luck to talk about baby names now.
JIN: (in Korean) Superstitious?
SUN: (in Korean) I don’t want to jinx him.
JIN: (in Korean; confident) You mean her.
SUN: (in Korean) Oh, it’s going to be a girl, is it?
JIN: (in Korean) Ji Yeon. I want to name her Ji Yeon.
SUN: (in Korean) I don’t want to talk about names.
JIN: (in Korean) You don’t like Ji Yeon?
SUN: (in Korean) No, it’s beautiful. I’ll tell you what. Let’s get off the island first. Then we can pick a name.
JIN: Deal!
[Jin and Sun shake hands.]
[Switch to an apartment. Sun is packing a bag. She goes to the lavatory and takes a tube of toothpaste from the medicine cabinet and a toothbrush. She returns to the bedroom and packs them in a red case, which in turn she packs into a larger bag. The television is on in the background. The show is Expose` and we see Nikki on the screen. Sun takes the remote and turns off the television. She walks to a mirror and puts on more lipstick. A pain stops her. She continues but the pain gets sharper. She drops the tube of lipstick and picks up and the phone and dials.]
WOMAN ON PHONE: (in Korean) Emergency Services.
SUN: (in Korean) I need an ambulance.
WOMAN ON PHONE: (in Korean) What seems to be the problem?
SUN: (in Korean scared) I’m pregnant and I think something’s wrong.
[Sun appears to be in labor. She is sitting on the edge of the bed. She drops the phone and holds onto her stomach as another contraction occurs.]
[Switch to a busy street. Jin is wearing a suit and in a rush. He hurriedly enters a toy store and starts going up and down the aisles in search of something in particular.]
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Can I help you? Is there something you're looking for?
JIN: (in Korean) Yes, a panda.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) This way, please.
[The store owner shows him a very large stuffed panda.]
JIN: (in Korean) Good. Give me that one.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Would you like it gift-wrapped?
JIN: (in Korean) No, I have to get to the hospital. How much is it?
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Fifty thousand won. Maternity ward?
JIN: (in Korean) Yes.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Why didn't you say so? You must be very happy. Boy or a girl?
JIN: (in Korean) I don’t know yet.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Don’t worry. Everyone loves a panda.
[Jin’s cell phone begins to ring. It is a larger, older model phone.]
JIN: (in Korean) Yes, yes. I'm on my way... I'm on my way. I understand.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Good Luck!
[Jin leaves the store in a rush.]
[Switch to beach. Jin is sleeping inside a tent. Sun enters excitedly and wakes him.]
SUN: (in Korean) Jin! Jin! Jin! Kate and Jack are back!
[Jin gets up and the leave the tent. They approach Kate on the beach. Kate is getting some water.]
JIN: What happened?
KATE: You mean before or after the redhead knocked me out?
[Sun looks over at Charlotte then turns back to Kate.]
SUN: She hit you?
KATE: When I ran into them on my way back from Locke's camp.
[Sun and Jin look at each other stunned by what they are hearing.]
SUN: Why would she do that?
KATE: I guess she didn't wanna have to explain why she was on her way to a poison gas factory. Juliet told Jack that it was a power station?
SUN: Why would Juliet lie about that?
KATE: Force of habit?
[Sun looks over to Charlotte.]
SUN: Why were they going there?
KATE: To turn it off, to deactivate the gas. I guess they wanted to earn some brownie points.
SUN: Do you think they're really going to rescue us?
KATE: In all the time they've been here they've talked about a lot of things, and none involved rescuing us.
[Switch to freighter sickbay. Sayid is sitting in a chair with his feet up on a desk. He is eating from a can of beans. Several open cans are on a table next to the cot Desmond is sleeping in. Desmond awakes groggy and starts to sit up.]
SAYID: Good morning.
DESMOND: Good morning.
SAYID: (frustrated) I hope they resolve their kitchen issues.
[Desmond looks down and sees a piece of paper that has been slid under the hatch door. He points at it.]
DESMOND: Sayid! What’s that?
[Sayid walks over and picks up the folded paper.]
SAYID: It’s a note. Three days ago I was in Locke’s camp and Ben claimed he had a spy on this boat.
[Sayid unfolds the paper and shows it to Desmond. It reads in upper case, printed letters – “DON’T TRUST THE CAPTAIN”.]
[Switch back to the beach. Sun approaches Daniel. He is trying to repair one of the satellite phones. Sun confronts Daniel.]
SUN: My name is Sun.
DANIEL: Hi, Sun, hi, I’m Daniel. Something I can help you with?
SUN: I’m 2 months pregnant.
DANIEL: Oh you’re, wow, that’s. Congratulations.
SUN: So are you here to rescue us?
[Daniel does his best to dance around the question.]
SUN: It’s a simple question. Are you or are you not going to rescue us?
DANIEL: The thing is, um, it’s not really my call, Sun.
SUN: And whose call is it?
[Daniel says nothing.]
SUN: Thank you.
[Sun walks away from Daniel.]
[On another part of the beach, Jin and Jack are deciding what to eat.]
JIN: (to Jack) Uh, can you pass, uh, the cereal?
[Jack passes the cereal to Jin.]
JACK: Pretty good English, Jin.
JIN: Thank you. I, understand better than I, uh, speak.
JACK: Has Sun been teaching you or are you just picking it up?
JIN: Oh, Sun teach me. Uh, Sawyer too. Sun is, better.
JACK: I bet.
[Sun runs over to Jin and Jack.]
JACK: Hey Sun. How are you feeling?
SUN: I’m good, thank you. The morning sickness has stopped, which has been nice.
JACK: That’s good. Well if you need anything, just let me know. OK?
[Jack walks away from Sun and Jin.]
JIN: (to Sun) Would you like some breakfast?
SUN: (in Korean strongly) Jin. You need to do as I say and not ask questions.
JIN: (in Korean) What’s the matter?
SUN: (in Korean) You need to find food for 2 days. Meet me at the tent in 20 minutes.
JIN: (in Korean) Why? What’s happened?
SUN: (in Korean, firmly) We’re going to Locke’s camp.
[Sun is now in a tent looking through medical supplies looking at labels on bottles. She looks through one tin then opens another. As she is rummaging thru the supplies, Juliet enters the tent.]
JULIET: What are you doing?
SUN: (caught off guard) I needed another bottle of those vitamins you gave me. The, pre-natals?
JULIET: You could have just asked.
SUN: You’re right. I should have.
JULIET: What happened to the last one I gave you?
SUN: Sorry?
JULIET: The last bottle I gave you. There should be 20 left. Are you planning a trip?
SUN: Please, just give me the vitamins.
JULIET: Where are you going, Sun?
SUN: We’re going to Locke’s camp.
JULIET: What? Why?
SUN: Because I don’t trust these people.
JULIET: Whether you trust them or not, you can't go there. Locke doesn't want to leave the island, and I've told you, Sun, pregnant women, they don't survive here.
SUN: Yes, you did tell me that.
JULIET: You don't believe me Look, I know that I have been less than truthful about certain things since coming here, but I promise you, Sun, I promise you, I'm not lying about this. After everything you've confided in me, I should at least have your trust.
SUN: Claire's baby is fine. I feel fine. All I have are your stories that I'm going to get sick. I'm going to do what's best for me and for my baby, because, no, I don't trust you.
[Sun takes the bottle of vitamins from Juliet’s hand, turns and leaves.]
[Switch to hospital where Sun is being wheeled in. There is a phone ringing in the background.]
NURSE 1: (in Korean) It’s ok. It ‘s going to be ok.
NURSE 2: (in Korean) Is that?
NURSE 1: (in Korean) Yes, Oceanic 6.
[Sun is in the delivery room. A nurse tries to remove her wedding band. Sun pulls back. There is beeping from medical equipment.]
SUN: (in Korean) Stop! What are you doing? (contraction)
NURSE 1: (in Korean) We remove all jewelry. It’s for the swelling.
SUN: (in Korean) No! Not my ring!
NURSE 1: (in Korean) Nothing will happen to it.
[The nurse continues to struggle with Sun. The doctor enters the room and goes to Sun.]
DR. BAE: (in Korean) It’s ok. Mrs. Kwon, I’m Dr. Bae. I’m on duty for Dr. Park.
SUN: (in Korean) Where is he? What’s happening?
DR. BAE: (in Korean) He’s away at a conference. (to the nurse) Give her something for the pain.
[The nurse nods in agreement and injects Sun with medication.]
DR. BAE: (in Korean) Let me take a look.
[The doctor examines Sun.]
SUN: (in Korean) Is there something wrong with my baby?
DR. BAE: (in Korean) It is in distress.
SUN: (in Korean) What’s wrong?
DR. BAE: (in Korean) I don’t know yet. That’s what I’m going to find out. Is there anyone we should contact? Your husband? Your parents?
SUN: (in Korean) Just get Jin, my husband.
[The doctor tells the nurse to comply with the request.]
SUN: (in Korean) Jin. Just get Jin.
DR. BAE: (in Korean) I’ll try to reach him.
SUN: (in Korean) Get my, husband.
DR. BAE: (in Korean) I’m sure he’ll be here soon.
SUN: (in Korean) Jin. (starts falling asleep)
[Switch to Jin outside the toy store. He is carrying a very large, stuffed panda. The streets are wet.]
JIN: (in Korean) Taxi!
[A taxi pulls over. Jin puts the panda in the back seat. His cell phone rings. He stops what he is doing to answer the phone.]
JIN: (in Korean) Yes. I’m on the way. Hello? Hello?
[A man walks by quickly and bumps Jin. He drops his cell phone.]
JIN: (in Korean) Hey! What is this?
[The cell phone drops from his hands. As he bends over to pick it up, a motorcycle runs over the phone. He picks it up to discover that the phone is smashed. Someone else gets into the taxi and it drives away with the panda still in the back seat. Jin starts running after the taxi.]
JIN: (in Korean) Stop! You bastard! I will kill you! If I find you! I will hunt you down and rip your head off!
[Jin smashes the broken phone on the ground, looks around and rushes back to the toy store. He enters, frantically looking for another panda.]
JIN: (in Korean) I need another panda!
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) I'm sorry, that was the last one.
[Jin sees another panda on a shelf behind the store owner.]
JIN: (in Korean) What about that one? It's right behind you.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) That one is on hold. They're quite popular.
JIN: (in Korean) How much do you want?
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) It’s already paid for.
[The store owner turns and picks up a stuffed dragon. He squeezes it and it squeaks.]
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) What about this? In the year of the dragon, it brings good luck.
[Jin is getting upset with the store owner. He goes thru his pockets and takes out a large sum of money and puts it on the counter.]
JIN: (in Korean) I need the panda.
STORE OWNER: (in Korean) Don’t lose this one.
[Jin takes the panda and runs out of the toy store.]
[Switch back to the island. Sun and Jin are all packed and ready to depart. Kate is with Jin and Sun. She is drawing them a map to Locke’s camp.]
KATE: Once you hit the stream, you want to head northwest, pretty much in a straight line for about a day and a half.
SUN: Thank you.
KATE: I’m gonna have to tell Jack, but I’ll give you guys a nice, long head start.
SUN: I'd tell him myself, but he wouldn't understand.
KATE: (agreeing) No, he wouldn’t.
[Kate and Sun hug each other.]
KATE: You'd better get going. Be safe okay?
SUN: Thank you.
[Juliet approaches Sun, Jin and Kate.]
JULIET: She’s not going anywhere. Sun, this is a bad idea.
SUN: What concern is it of yours?
JULIET: (to Jin) Do you understand your wife's medical condition right now? (to Sun) Translate for me.
SUN: No.
JULIET: (to Jin) Your wife is very sick. If she doesn't get off this island in three weeks, she will die.
SUN: (in Korean) Never mind. Let’s go.
[Sun and Jin begin to walk away. Juliet hurries after them.]
JULIET: (to Jin) If you let her go, your wife is in danger. Jin, danger.
JIN: Wherever Sun go, I go.
JULIET: Sun, please?
[Sun walks away.]
JULIET: (stopping Jin) Jin. Your wife had an affair.
JIN: What?
JULIET: Sun was with another man. She thought the baby was his.
[Jin looks at Sun quizzically as she walks back to Juliet. She slaps Juliet across the face and turns to Jin. Jin, broken hearted and on the verge of tear, walks away from Sun.
SUN: (in Korean) Jin!
[Sun chases Jin back to the beach. She sits down beside him. He ignores her as she speaks. He is packing to go fishing.]
SUN: (in Korean) Jin. Jin. Talk to me. Let me explain. It was a long time ago. Look at me. Just look at me. I understand you're angry. And I have no excuse. Please let me explain.
[Jin walks away from her. He is still ignoring her.]
SUN: (crying in Korean) Let me explain! Jin!
[Bernard comes over to Jin and Sun.]
BERNARD: Hey! You’re going fishing?
[Jin stops and looks at Bernard.]
BERNARD: Um, do you mind if I tag along?
[Bernard now notices that Sun is crying.]
BERNARD: Oh, oh I am sorry. I, I didn’t mean to interrupt.
JIN: No, come.
BERNARD: You’re sure?
JIN: Yes. Come.
[Bernard and Jin leave to go fishing walking along the shoreline. Sun looks on as the 2 men depart.]
[Jin and Bernard are fishing in a canoe with one balance keel off of one side.]
BERNARD: You realize we’re the only 2 married guys on the island?
[Jin is not quite sure what Bernard is saying. Bernard points to his wedding band.]
BERNARD: Married?
JIN: (nodding yes) Married.
BERNARD: Yeah, well, no, not to each other. No.
[Jin nods yes and Bernard is laughing.]
BERNARD: You got it. It's not easy, is it? Oh, I mean, it's, it's wonderful, but let's face it, every decision that you make takes twice as long. 'Cause you always gotta talk them into it. (pauses) Rose has cancer. She's sick. Dying. Well, at least, she was dying. She says she's better now. She says it's this place. The island. But when the camp split up, I was sure that she'd want to go with Locke. Why would she want to leave the island, and risk getting sick again?
JIN: Then why do you stay with Jack?
BERNARD: Because it was the right thing to do. Locke, uh, he's a murderer. See, it's all about karma, Jin. Do you know karma?
[Jin nods yes.]
BERNARD: You make bad choices, bad things happen to you. But you make good choices, and then good…
[A fish getting caught on Jin’s fishing rod interrupts Bernard.]
BERNARD: Hey! Hey, hey, hey! You got one! Yeah. Here, pull it in.
[Jin pulls in his fish.]
BERNARD: Wow, look at that! You see? Now, that's karma. We must be the good guys, huh?
[Switch back to the freighter. Desmond and Sayid are still in sickbay. They here the monotonous noise of 3 raps a small pause. It is repetitious.]
DESMOND: How long's that gonna go on for, eh? Can't they just fix whatever the bloody hell's causing that?
SAYID: That sound is not mechanical.
DESMOND: What, you think somebody's doing that? Somebody's just banging those pipes again and again?
SAYID: That’s exactly what I think.
[Doc Ray enters sickbay.]
DOC RAY: Gentlemen, thanks for your patience. The captain would like to see you now.
[Doc Ray leads Sayid and Desmond onto the main deck of the freighter.]
SAYID: Where’s the helicopter?
DOC RAY: Lapidus is running an errand.
SAYID: What kind of errand?
DOC RAY: I’m a doctor. I don’t know where he’s going.
SAYID: Did he go to the island?
DOC RAY: (sarcastically) You know anywhere else he could land?
[Desmond notices that Regina is walking along a walkway. She is wrapped in chains and oblivious to anything around her.]
SAYID: What’s he going to do there?
DOC RAY: I said I’m just a doctor.
SAYID: What did Lapidus say?
DOC RAY: He didn’t say anything to me.
SAYID: (frustrated) What is he doing there?
[Desmond starts to run towards Regina. She is about to jump off the side of the freighter.
DESMOND: Hey! Hey!
[Regina jumps off the freighter. Sayid and Desmond to see where she is.]
DESMOND: That woman just jumped over the side of the ship!
[The crew looks overboard and continues with their tasks. They do nothing.]
DESMOND: Don't just stand there! What's the matter with you people?
SAYID: What’s wrong with you? Get the rope!
DESMOND: Why aren’t you doing anything?
[Captain Gault appears on the deck. He walks toward Sayid and Desmond. They are bewildered and frantic.]
DESMOND: Bring a rope!
SAYID: Get a rope!
CAPT. GAULT: Stop!
DESMOND: She just jumped!
CAPT. GAULT: It's over! She's gone! Everybody get back to your posts. That was an order! I’m Captain Gault. I suppose you 2 have a few questions. So what can I do for you?
SAYID: What?
CAPT. GAULT: You boys said you wanted to speak with me.
SAYID: Let's just start with why a woman jumped over the side of your ship, and you did nothing to stop it.
CAPT. GAULT: I didn't jump in, or order my crew to jump in, because I didn't want to lose any more people.
DESMOND: What exactly is going on here?
CAPT. GAULT: Some of my crew has been dealing with, what might best be described as a heightened case of cabin fever. I think it's got something to do with the close proximity of the island.
SAYID: Why don’t you turn around then?
CAPT. GAULT: I've tried, but we have a saboteur on board, and he's done one hell of a job on my engines. I've got my crew working around the clock to repair them.
SAYID: And then you'll take our people home?
CAPT. GAULT: Then we move to safer waters. Those are my orders.
SAYID: And I don't suppose you'll tell us who gave you those orders?
CAPT. GAULT: Sure I will. Charles Widmore.
DESMOND: This is Charles Widmore’s boat?
CAPT. GAULT: That right. You know him.
[Gault shows Desmond and Sayid to the captain’s room. He takes a large, rusty metal box from a cabinet and places it on a table.]
CAPT. GAULT: Do either of you know what this is?
SAYID: It’s a flight data recorder otherwise known as a black box.
CAPT. GAULT: That's exactly what it is. Now here's the funny thing. This black box comes from Oceanic Flight 815.
[Desmond and Sayid look at each other in disbelief.]
CAPT. GAULT: A salvage vessel recovered it from the bottom of the ocean. It took a considerable amount of Mr. Widmore's resources to procure it. It was found with the wreckage of the plane, along with all 324 dead passengers. That's not the complete story, as you are well aware, Mr. Jarrah, given the fact that you're standing here, breathing. The wreckage was obviously staged. Now can you imagine what kind of resources and manpower go into pulling off a feat of that magnitude? Faking the recovery of a plane crash? Putting 324 families through a grieving process based on a lie? But what's even more disturbing, where exactly does one come across 324 dead bodies? And that, Mr. Jarrah, Mr. Hume, is just one of the many reasons we want Benjamin Linus.
[Switch to the beach. Sun is sitting along on the shoreline looking out at the ocean. Against a clear blue sky, we see a calm ocean accompanied by the soothing sound of the waves. Juliet approaches Sun and stands next to her.]
JULIET: I’m sorry. I had to stop you any way I could.
SUN: It wasn’t your place to stop us.
JULIET: (sits) I know you don’t trust me, but you need to get off this island. We all do.
SUN: You want to leave?
JULIET: More than anything. I don't know if that boat out there is the answer or not, but it's something. I need to go home. So do you. Sun, in about three weeks, you'll be in an almost constant state of nausea. A week after that, you will experience shortness of breath that won't go away. A week after that, you will lose consciousness and slip into a coma. And then, Sun, you will die. And when your heart stops beating, so will the baby's. And that, Sun, is why it is my business.
[Switch to hospital. Sun is in labor and giving birth.]
DR. BAE: (in Korean) I have to perform a C-section.
SUN: (in Korean) No.
DR. BAE: (in Korean) You don’t understand. This medication makes a natural birth difficult.
SUN: (in Korean) No, no! Not until Jin.
DR. BAE: (in Korean) We’ve got to get to surgery!
SUN: (in Korean) Where’s my husband?
DR. BAE: (in Korean) He’s not here yet. We cannot wait!
[The door to the delivery room opens and a man pauses, looks in and continues walking. Sun thinks it is Jin.]
SUN: (in Korean) Jin! Jin!
NURSE 1: (in Korean) Dr. Bae. The baby is crowning!
DR. BAE: (in Korean) OK Sun. You need to push now. That’s it. Push! Push! You can do it! That’s it! Push!
[A baby has been born to Sun. The crying is loud and healthy.]
DR. BAE: (in Korean) You did it.
[Dr. Bae brings the baby to Sun. Sun is crying tears of joy as she looks upon her daughter for the first time. She is playing with her tiny fingers.]
DR. BAE: (in Korean) Congratulations! You have a baby daughter.
[Switch to the freighter. It is nighttime. Doc Ray leads Sayid and Desmond down the stairs from the captain’s quarters to their new room.]
DOC RAY: So what do you think of the captain?
SAYID: He was surprisingly forthcoming.
DOC RAY: Yeah, he tells it like it is. Just don't piss him off. You know what I mean? I think you'll like your room. It's on a quiet part of the ship.
DESMOND: This, ship isn’t moving.
DOC RAY: Well, if you say so.
[Doc Ray opens the door to a room, turns on the light to find it crawling all over with bugs and having a large bloodstain on the wall.]
DOC RAY: That shouldn’t still be there. Damn it!
[At the end of the corridor is a crewmember that is mopping the floor. Doc Ray turns to him and shouts.]
DOC RAY: Hey Johnson! Is that you? Johnson!
JOHNSON: Yeah.
DOC RAY: Mop this up.
JOHNSON: Sorry. I gotta go up on deck.
DOC RAY: No! You’re gonna mop this up!
[Johnson walks down the corridor to the room where Sayid and Desmond are to use. He is walking with his head down. As he approaches we see that is it Michael Dawson. Sayid recognizes him.]
DOC RAY: Kevin, this is uh,
SAYID: Sayid.
DESMOND: Desmond.
JOHNSON: Kevin Johnson.
SAYID: Nice to meet you Kevin.
[Sayid shakes Johnson’s hand. He looks him straight in the eye letting him know that is he angry with him.]
[Switch to the beach. Sun is tidying up her tent. Jin enters the tent with food.]
JIN: (smiling) I made, dinner.
SUN: (in Korean) I thought you had left me. Will you let me try to explain?
JIN: (in Korean) It won’t matter.
SUN: (in Korean) Just listen, maybe.
JIN: (in Korean) I know why you did it. I know the man, I used to be. Before this island, I withheld my affections. And I know, that whatever you did, you did to that man. His actions caused this. So I forgive you.
[Sun smiles with her eyes full of tears. Jin takes Sun’s hand.]
JIN: (in Korean) So I will go to Locke’s camp with you.
SUN: (in Korean) I don’t want to go there anymore.
JIN: (in Korean) Why?
SUN: (in Korean) Juliet was very convincing. We have to get off this island. These people have a helicopter. We have to try.
JIN: (in Korean) I’ll do what it takes to protect you and the baby. I promise.
SUN: (in Korean choking up) Thank you.
JIN: (in Korean) There’s just one thing. And please, the truth.
SUN: (in Korean) Anything.
JIN: Is, the, baby, mine?
SUN: (in Korean) Yes Jin. I swear the baby is yours. It’s yours. I love you so much.
[Sun and Jin hug each other tightly.]
SUN: (in Korean) I thought I had lost you.
JIN: (in Korean) I love you too. And you will never lose me.
[Switch to the hospital. Jin runs down the corridor carrying the large panda. He passes a desk and quickly says something to the nurse sitting at the desk. (It is unintelligible) She points down the corridor. He comes to a room and there is a man in a suit standing guard at the door.]
JIN: (in Korean) I am Jin-Soo Kwon. I represent Paik Automotive.
MAN IN SUIT: (in Korean) Yes.
JIN: (in Korean) I heard the Ambassador is now a grandfather. I came to present a gift.
MAN IN SUIT: (in Korean) Wait here.
JIN: (in Korean) Excuse me. Is it a boy or a girl?
MAN IN SUIT: (in Korean) A boy.
[The man in the suit enters the room. Jin takes a blue ribbon from a plant and ties it around the neck of the panda. He straightens himself up. An elderly man exits the room.]
AMBASSADOR: (in Korean) Yes?
JIN: (in Korean) Mr. Ambassador. This panda is a symbol of Mr. Paik's eagerness to do business in the great country of China. Please accept his congratulations.
AMBASSADOR: (in Korean) Thank Mr. Paik for me. Tell him I’ll call.
[The Ambassador turns to return to the room. His daughter is in bed holding the baby. She is being fussed over by her mother. Jin takes a peek inside. He then turns to leave. He is smiling with relief. As he leaves he passes the same desk nurse that pointed the way when he entered with the panda.]
DESK NURSE: (in Korean) Leaving so soon?
JIN: (in Korean) It wasn’t my baby.
DESK NURSE: (in Korean) Well, maybe someday.
[Jin is chuckling. He is walking and buttoning his jacket at the same time. He turns to the desk nurse.]
JIN: (in Korean) Don’t rush me. I’ve only been married 2 months.
[Switch back to apartment. Sun is removing her wedding band from a plastic bag that the hospital put it in. She puts her band back on her 4th finger of her left hand. She is dressed in black and appears to be getting ready to go out. As she touches up her lipstick, the doorbell rings. She goes to answer the door. It is Hurley. They smile and hug each other.]
SUN: A can’t believe you came all this way.
HURLEY: Are you kidding? Is anyone else coming?
SUN: No.
HURLEY: Goood. So, where is she?
[Sun takes Hurley to where the baby is lying down. She is dressed in a pink sweater with pick knitted booties on.]
HURLEY: She’s awesome.
SUN: Thank you.
[Sun picks up the baby gently in her arms.]
SUN: Would you like to hold her?
HURLEY: I don’t know. I kinda have 2 left hands.
SUN: I trust you.
[She gently hands the baby to Hurley. He holds her very gently as he smiles and gazes at her tiny face.]
HURLEY: Wow. She looks just like Jin.
SUN: (sadly) Yes she does.
[Hurley hands the baby back to Sun.]
HURLEY: So, I guess we should, like go see him.
SUN: Of course.
[Switch to a cemetery. Sun is carrying the baby and Hurley is with her. It is a clear day and there is a large tree that they pass. They stop at Jin’s tombstone. Sun kneels down, still holding the baby, and begins to cry. She holds the baby up to the stone.]
SUN: (in Korean) Jin. You were right. It's a girl. The delivery was hard on me. The doctor said I was calling out for you. I wish you could've been there. Jin, she's beautiful. Ji Yeon. I named her just like you wanted. I miss you so much. I miss you so much.
[Sun breaks down crying. She hugs the baby. Hurley stands next to them, watching over them. We see a full shot of the tombstone. Down the right side of the stone we see: Jin 1974 11 27 2004 9 22. On the left side we see Sun 1980 3 20. It appears to be dates of Jin’s birth and death. Along side is Sun’s date of her birth.]
